SAGAL Posted December 23, 2002 I have got an, e-mail about ten minutes ago and here is what it said . . . The new movie, makes fun of ALLAH. The new "Matrix Reloaded" has gone to the extreme to make a mockery against Muslims. The writers and producers have decided to name one of their characters "Allah" and are played by "Stewart Wells." This is both offensive and rude as Muslims turn to the worship of Allah five times a day, and calling it a fictional character shows disrespect to Islam and Muslims as a whole. In direct condemnation of this, Muslims are strongly urged to NOT watch this film by any shape or form and to condemn it openly if that's the least we can do. Tony_Montana Posted December 25, 2002 Release Date: May 15th, 2003 Release Date Notes: May 15th, 2003 is a Thursday, making this WB's first non-Holiday Thursday release ever, moved up a day from May 16th, 2003. The date before that was a week later on May 23rd, which was the Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. Before filming started, the original target release was May/June 2002, and then December 25th, 2002. MPAA Rating: The first film was rated R, so it is very likely that the sequels will be as well. Title Note: (1/7/00) It's possible that this film may have a subtitle besides just being The Matrix 2. Some of the concepts that could be used in a subtitle include Neo, Zion, The Construct, etc. (5/10/01) Indeed. Corona broke the news that the title will be The Matrix: Reloaded. Distributor: Warner Bros. Production Company: Village Roadshow Pictures, Silver Pictures Cast: Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus), Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Niobi), Adrian Rayment and Neil Rayment (The Twins), Christine Anu, Steve Bastoni (Captain Sorren), Monica Bellucci (Persephone), Daniel Bernhardt (Agent Johnson), Collin Chou, Randall Duk Kim (The Keymaker), Nona Gaye (Zee), Lachy Hulme (Sparks), Roy Jones, Jr. (Captain Ballard), Harry Lennix (Lock), Matt McColm (Agent Thompson), Monique Montez, Harold Perrineau, Jr., Rupert Reid, Che Timmins (Radio Man), Gina Torres (Cass, Dozer's widow), Clayton Watson (The Kid), Lambert Wilson (Merovingian) Aaliyah Note: (8/25/01) With costar Aaliyah killed tragically in an airplane accident, it is not yet known how much of her central role was filmed, or if the role will need to be recast. I suspect that if the latter is the case, WB will wait a respectful amount of time (but not too long) before they announce it. (4/10/02) The role has gone to relative newcomer Nona Gaye. Possible Returning Cast: The first movie introduced several supporting characters that could take on much larger roles in the sequels. They are... Tank: As the film progressed, Tank's role grew in relevance, suggesting that in the sequel, he could be a major character. Tank is a "pure human" born outside the farms, who monitors their connections to the Matrix. (11/6/00) It appears that Chong might not be returning due to contract negotiations over salary. Over at The We Want Tank Coalition, they're trying to get fans of Chong to write WB in support of his casting. (3/28/01) The role of Tank has been recast with a different actor (whose name hasn't been revealed yet). The Oracle: Gloria Foster. Here's one possibility... is she really a renegade agent/A.I.? (scroll to reveal possible spoiler) There's certainly hints to suggest it, such as her amazing awareness of the future of events within the Matrix. Another thing to consider is that we are told that the Nebuchednezzar must ascend to broadcasting range; and that Zion is deep within the Earth. Therefore, in order for the Oracle and her followers to be where they are all the time... they would have to be somewhere else besides Zion. How would they do that? Hmmm... (or of course, she could be in a pod... we don't know). (10/7/01) Ms. Foster died on Saturday, September 29th, of diabetes. She had completed most of her work in this film. Choi and DuJour: Marc Grey, Ada Nicodemou (First off, let me note that I thought for sure his name was Troy, but in fact, he's credited as "Choi". Anyway, my understanding of Choi, DuJour, and their friends, is that they are the crew of another ship similar to the one captained by Morpheus. As such, since they apparently helped out Morpheus in the first film, we may guess they'll be around to help again in the sequels.) Spoon Boy and the Potentials: Rowan Witt, many other child actors. (1/7/00) Wow, that's a great name for a band. Got a musical talent... grab it, fast! Anyway, Spoon Boy had a great cameo role in The Matrix, and seems like the sort of character we could see in the future, as he matures in his process.) (3/30/01) As it turns out, someone did grab the band name. They're in Indianapolis. Agents Brown and Jones: Paul Goddard, Robert Taylor (There's not really much to say about them... except that I hope we continue to see them as a pair. Their brief scenes together seemed to show a natural teamwork; especially when they're scared. Cast Member Not Returning: Joe Pantoliano (Cypher) Director: Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski (Bound, The Matrix, The Matrix Revolutions) Screenwriter: Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski (Bound, The Matrix, The Matrix Revolutions) Based Upon: This is of course the sequel to the popular 1999 film, The Matrix. It's to be followed by The Matrix Revolutions. There will also be Matrix Anime, a collection of episodes by famous Anime directors, released to video in late 2002 or early 2003. Premise: (1/7/00) Nothing official has been announced. However, we do know that these films will be sequels (not prequels), and that we will see Neo as a superhuman figure capable of amazing feats. (as seen in The Matrix near the end; he demonstrated flight, time-control, super-speed, etc.) Much more than that is probably just rumor and speculation at this point. So... speculate away! (Just after I wrote that, one idea came to mind... I might guess there could be a baby Neo in the sequels?) One thing that is known is that this film will most likely end with a cliffhanger that leads directly to The Matrix Revolutions. (8/12/00) As hinted by the end of the first film, you will indeed see Neo in lots of flying scenes. (2/6/02) Laurence Fishburne revealed to ET that the film takes place six months after the first, after many more people have been "awakened" to the real world. (7/25/02) Producer Joel Silver told the UK movie magazine "Empire" that the sequels are not two separate movies, but a really long movie cut in half, that all takes place in a 24-hour span, and that Monica Bellucci plays an evil temptress. This "first half" is spent largerly in the Matrix as Neo learns more about his "superheroic" abilities, including the ability to see the code, etc. of the people and things around him. (9/18/02) If you really want to know a great deal about this film's premise..., and don't mind perhaps knowing *too much*, then you'll want to check out Jeffrey Wells' detail-packed Rolling Stone piece. Filming: Production on these sequels started with 12 weeks of filming in and around Oakland, CA in March, 2001. The schedule of actual filming for the two movies is estimated at around 250 days. There will also be filming in Australia sets, and on location in Chicago. (10/3/01) Filming in Sydney, Australia started on September 24th, 2001. (10/17/01) Filming of the two sequels is expected to wrap in Sydney in August, 2002. (8/29/02) Filming did indeed wrap on August 21st, 2002, which is Carrie-Anne Moss's birthday, and also the fifth anniversary of the 1997 date in which she found out she had the role of Trinity in the first film. Worth checking out if you have the time to wait for the art to download) Jet Li Notes: (4/4/00) According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter, Jet Li is in talks to join the cast of both sequels. The biggest obstacle to his coming aboard is budget, as they're already challenged to meet salary demands of the returning stars, directors, and other crew... but it's a start. The scripts haven't been written yet, and so, there's no word yet on what sort of character Jet Li might play. (6/14/00) Variety reports that Jet Li's next film will be a project for director Luc Besson, also filming this fall. It's unknown if this will influence his participation in these projects. (7/19/00) Jet Li has apparently announced that he will indeed be in this film. Where did this big announcement come from? Li's official site says so. (7/20/00) Or not. One day after I posted this, Jet's official site removed the comment about this film. Hmmm. (12/19/00) Variety columnist Michael Fleming reports that Jet Li has dropped out due to salary constraints, with Michelle Yeoh now in talks to play the same character. Li was asking for $13 million for both movies, to keep his salary in the range of other movies he's doing, and they offered only $3 million. (1/13/01) Yeoh is now out, according to PageSix.com. Tony_Montana Posted December 25, 2002 Internet sources report that Stuart Wells will play the role of a character called 'Allah'. Although the Wachowski Brothers have made links to religious names in the names of characters, it has never been this obvious. Matrixfansite.com still has his doubts...
Abdinuur Posted December 25, 2002 This is so sad...really it hurts me. But on the other hand, this is just nothing b/c they'll have to pay for their responsibilities. They disbelieve in Allah and they'll have to pay for their actions. I was watching MTV the other day and there is this black kid by the name of allah...and I pray to Allah Almighty that he loses b/c I just can't stand it. CIO.
