UK Minister:”Our government has commited over a 100 Million pounds over next 4 years for Somaliland”

During the visit to Somaliland, Mr. Bellingham took the opportunity to address the Somaliland House of Representative. In his speech, the minister stated the United Kingdom will support Somaliland’s continued efforts toward social development, national stability and security, good governance and the fight against terrorism and piracy in the region.

Mr. Bellingham, Minister of State for African Affairs, congratulated the members of both chambers of the Somaliland parliament on their efforts to strengthen democracy in the country and their commitment to the principles of democracy and accountability.

Thankful

Interesting, not a single mention of regonition in any kind of context. We all know NW Somalia's number one goal is recognition, why no mention of it? Why didn't he say what everyone was waiting to hear? Strange that he avoided that topic!

I think the UK Gov't press release was quite clear that this visit was to Somalia.

Nonetheless, I guess hand outs from western nations are a good thing.

Also, I wonder if he refused to allow the British flag to be hoisted up. Is it me, or was the room quite empty?

OOdweyne , one welcomes the pledge of financial support from the old, queen's land as it meets our bottom line awoowe. As for the recognition and the hidden codes you seem to be ever cracking for us, we have yet to see any progress on that front. I wonder if you would ever accept the hard truth about your clan groupings failure to convince the world that theirs deserves to be recognized as a sovereign nation.

There's a large NW Somalia diaspora in the UK, so logically he is tapping into this group. The trip makes sense as well as the classic tactic of offering aid to a political base. The NW Somalis in the UK want to hear him say these things. The man is a politician, he is seeking votes and/or support!

We know with no doubt Siilaanyo and his ministers spoke mostly about recognition in their meeting. However, Mr. Bellingham made sure not to even touch the recognition topic; despite the need for votes.

Ibtisam

The bottom line is UK is coming to Somaliland for their own economic gains and advantage, they are not giving handouts or aid as such, they are looking for involvement that benefits them. The best in this is that they consider Somaliland as stable and economicly viable/advantage, they see the SL diaspora shifting back and they want to trace and gain from the movement of these shared citizens.

Somaliland and the Somalilanders that lead foreigners back need to ensure the locals benefit and that foreigner’s agenda FIT in with our development and progress as people. This of course needs state level planning and monitoring.

It worries me to have seen so many foreigners from all over the place, all here in Hargeisa looking at business opportunities and teaming up with the Diaspora returnees. Ownership and monopoly on business and ownership/shareholders need to remain with the Somalis.

P.s. I find it tedious that you guys are still debating about SL vs S, visiting here instead of there; Bottom line is this is something that could potentially benefit Somali people [particularly if they invest in Water resources & agriculture) and alleviate the situation of drought we associate our people with; Who cares where or what or how?

Yes he came to Somaliland (with 5 other representatives), yes he knew he was in Somaliland and yes he did address the issue of recognition and how Somaliland can achieve it several times during his visit; but the silver lining is, formality or otherwise they are not only increasing their Somaliland contribution but they want to know how to use this wisely and effectively to the locals benefit at the same time engaging the Diaspora. THAT is positive!

Ibtisam,

This is excellent news, I hope Hargeysa becomes the next Dubai, Western nations promising aid is nothing new, hopefully it will come to fruition.

Just like U.S Senator Mark Kirk visted Bosasso, I think all of this is cause for celebration.

As long as Mr. Bellingham continues to not entertain or comment on breaking up Somalia, I support this.

It went from the uk minister is going to somalia ,,, and somaliland not in the picture at all than we heard him talking about somaliland and its progress and how he and his country is going to assist somaliland. Somalilands independence was done by its people. Foreign countries cannot Undermine our Sovereignty like they did with your somalia

Come on now Oodweyne. Look at the empty seats where Mr. Bellingham is speaking. You and I both know there are a lot of secessionists who are upset at him. First with the British office's official press release that made no mention of your enclave. Second, many are upset at the fact that he will not even touch the recognition topic - in any context. Did Siilaanyo and other guys bring it up to Mr. Bellingham? No doubt, however, we both know that Mr. Bellingham speech never spoke of it once.

So you can come along and say the two men spoke in private about how to start a space program in Hargeysa or Mercedes Benz factory, but there is nothing on record and like always you will speak about imaginary topics with no proof.

The U.K minister visit was suppose to be cause from great celebration, however many are upset that he made not a single mention of recognition. It is quite clear by the lack of attendance to his speech and the lack of coverage from the so-called media.

This is bad news for the Somali nationalists, this financial help from the old enemy of the Somali people, United Kingdom- to the treacherous SNM administration in northern Somalia will only strengthen the criminal separatist movement.

Long live Somalia!

Long Live the nationalist resistance movement!
