I died of jelousy when I went to Kenya and saw what a functioning goverment, however corrupted, looks like. nuune Posted September 14, 2011 ^^ The Russian propellers aren't airlines, just leased from overseas companies, you and I can even do and lease few one's and run regional scheduled services, but Somalia needs proper airline, the White Blue Service has to return, during the downfall on 90/91, Siyaad's goverment had signed 5 Big Jumbo Jet 747 Boeing, this was indeed a head of the average African Airlines, and was soon to become the best airlines in Africa and even Middle East, but few months later, Siyaad was ousted, and the newly ordered planes never made to Mogadishu. Turkish deputy premier arrived in Somali capital of Mogadishu on Saturday. During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag will lay foundation of a hospital to be constructed by Turkey and be in informed on education, health and infrastructure projects in Mogadishu. The Turkish vice prime minister also laid foundation today construction of new terminal at Mogadishu airport. Around $ 150 million will be expended to upgrade Aden Adde international.. project including spacious departure and arrival hall..14 new gates with jetway bridges..upgrading runway and new tower for air traffic control.. By ABDULKADIR KHALIF Nation Correspondent Posted Sunday, December 18 2011 at 19:11 Nine Turkish experts have been engaged in the setting up of a modern control tower from which all flights over Somalia’s territory would be monitored. “Mogadishu’s airport operates under the old system and is mainly used by aircraft from Kenya,” said Mr Aydin Sarik, the head of the Turkish team. Mr Sarik told journalists on Saturday that Turkish planes will start flights to Mogadishu after the airport’s infrastructure and systems are raised to world standards. “It will ease the delivery of humanitarian assistance and development aid,” he said. For nearly a year, a Dubai-based private company has been handling the airport services in Mogadishu. SKA Air & Logistics officials have stated in the past that the company had plans to modernise the airport, named after Somalia’s first president, Aden Abdulle. In late November, during a two-day visit to Mogadishu, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag officiated a number of projects his country would implement in Mogadishu. Immediately after landing in Somalia, Mr Bozdag laid the foundation stones for a modern tower and a fortified perimeter wall to improve the airport’s security. During a visit to Mogadishu in August, Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised that his country would implement multiple projects in Somalia, including in infrastructure and social services. Somalina Posted December 23, 2011 Turkish Airlines to start Mogadishu flights in 2012 19.12.11 DUBAI — The Turkish Airlines this week said it will add flights to and from the Somali capital at the beginning of January in 2012 as it tries to draw more African passengers. Turkish Airlines (THY) CEO Temel Kotil told Anatolia news agency that THY will fly to Mogadishu twice-daily. The announcement follows as the government of Turkey deployed engineers to renovate and modernize the airport in Mogadishu. The Turkish government announced dozens of development projects for Somalia including hospitals, schools, scholarships, roads and other key infrastructures. Ankara says its vision for Somalia is more than just the infrastructure. The Somali public has hailed the Turkish initiatives and expressed their gratitude to the Turkish government and people for their generous support. Somalis are excited about the THY’s expansion plans. Since the visit by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Mogadishu in August to rise awareness about the Somali crisis–the Somali people no longer feel forgotten. Somalis are optimistic and feel a wind of change is on its way. Turkey might rescue Somalia from itself. The Turkish nation has promised to leave no stone unturned until Somalia achieved a lasting peace. The national flag carrier airline of Turkey is yet to reveal the flight routes and dates when it will begin direct flights to Mogadishu. With the new connection offering direct flights to Somalia which was no-go-zone for the last two decades, the new THY connection will be ideal to many Somalis in the Diaspora.
