OdaySomali Posted May 26, 2011 Why did they burn it? I mean it still had value and could either be kept or converted into dollars thought that would have flooded the Somali shilling market. What a waste of money though.
Saalax Posted May 26, 2011 ^^^ It was very old, diseased and bad smell. It's good that they got rid of it atleast it's not much use in Somaliland now.
Che -Guevara Posted May 26, 2011 Only in Somalia would see people taking the day off to burn money,

That's beside the point, it still had monetary value. With all the poverty in SL, it makes sense to exchange and give to the poor. Shame.

Blessed Posted May 27, 2011 ^Be real now. Or they could've sent it to where it's still used out of SL....
Som@li Posted May 27, 2011 Is this some kind of revenge against the SOMALI republic, after the failed secession bid? What a waste!
Blessed Posted May 27, 2011 ^Not everything in SL is done out of spite for Somalia. The money was old and the local market needs to be integrated.
Som@li Posted May 27, 2011 ^which local market, Integrating with the triangle? Does Burco need to disintegrate with other Somali cities?
Saalax Posted May 27, 2011 *Blessed on a positive side note. Now all the major cities of Somaliland will be connected economically using the same currency plus there won't be any false money made in Puntland or other parts of Somalia flooding the Burco market and causing inflation.
