You can feel Dayuuradii Somaliland la oran jiray inay soo caga dhiganayso kadib markii ay ka duushay gagida dayuuradaha ee magaalada Burco taariikhdu markay ahayd 18kii May 1991.

The Foriegn minister of Somaliland has confirmed to Gulfnews newspaper in Dubai that they will talk to Somali government to be part of the federal system or to break away, here is the quote

Q ) Do you have strategic [plans] of unifying with Somalia in the future?

A) The main work of our government is to bring the peace to Somalia because without peace we can do nothing. Then we can negotiate about the other issues [whether] to be [an] independent state or becoming a [federation] like the United Arab Emirates. There are different political options. You cannot negotiate if there is no peace. We have to accept some land as independent states.

I always said the path to the independence of Somaliland runs through the corridors of Mogadishu, Not Westminster.

Look at Eritrea they went through Addis, look at South Sudan they went through Khartoum. This is a United Nations charter if two countries join together mutually, they have to separate mutually.

Can't really fault SL for the fact that in those 20 years there has not been an internationally recognised sovereign govt in Mogadishu to enter into talks and eventually an agreement with, just as Eritrea or South Sudan did. Any agreement now is not worth the paper it's written on.

I really doubt that will materialize very easily.

During India , Pakistan Partition, which was mainly headed by the British Colonials, the partition was a way to extend the control of the colony, (Classic divide and conquer) and the idea of partition was introduced, As history shows, Even Jinah was pro one India, and wanted to use separate Muslim State, Pakistan , as bargaining chip, but what happen was totally different, Both sides lost, After millions died, he could not stop the secession, It went to a point that his speeches in Pakistan were censored. So my point is you don't play with human emotions and start a fire you can not stop, The secessionists will eliminate the so called leaders in SL if they hear joining Somalia.

As for the topic, it is a good step. Federalism should be considered.
