SayidSomal Posted May 16, 2011 SOMALIA DERVISHES (1985)??? It is apparently a four and half hour long film about the struggles of Sayid Maxamed Cabdulle Xasan. Directed by Somali guy called Saalax Axmed with an Indian production company - unfortunately, the linked article does not say whether the film was successfully produced, although the articles does imply that it may have been finished - as it is supposedly been shown at the US at the time print? Anyinfo - would be appreciated

Jacaylbaro Posted May 17, 2011 It was even insult to the Sayidka himself .... They just wanted to say Sayidka was fighting for the Kacaanka that was the main message
SayidSomal Posted May 20, 2011 Kacaanka just means The Revolution - Said Bare was not the only somali revolutionary in somali history. Chimera - you are a movie buff - do you know where i can locate this film?
Chimera Posted May 20, 2011 That film is a national treasure, and not the Dervish film Jac is ranting about. Your best bet is to contact the director himself(impossible) or the ones that were in charge of the "Somali Film Agency" and check whether they managed to salvage the tons of movies and short films Somalia used to produce before all hell broke loose. I'm pretty sure though their storage facility suffered the same fate as the once largest museum in East Africa, that used to house our national heritage in Mogadishu. Civil-wars don't just kill the "living".
