In my view, this piece doesn't even fit that we debate on SOL but every one's take I see. As someone who is as pragmatic as I'm, a self-styled one I may add, I think Idil is a capable, young lady and I admire her but Chimera giving a green light Muslim girls to date and even marry to non-Muslims is not only pathetic but doesn't have a place in the Islamic Faith. If Chimera is suggesting a revision of that piece of religious legislation that is another matter all together.

 

PS: I've checked on Mr. Tim Hetherington's profile on the internet, read it and couldn't find anything pertaining to his religious beliefs. Would someone enlighten me what his faith was?. If he turns to be a Muslim, my above remarks should be refuted.

Fact is 98.5% of Somalis in the west marry one another, the other 1.5% are male/female reverts or belong to specialised professions such as science, entertainment, sports etc. If therefore you aspired to become an astronaut, there is a very slim chance that you would encounter a fellow Somali there, and so the possibility of you marrying one of your non-Somali colleagues or someone you see in that scientific environment everyday is very HIGH!

Unless we are going by people's personalities, AhmedNijaad stated some valid points. Being a film maker or being their "girlfriend" (What is a girlfriend by the way? The one that does everything that a wife would do without being married to you, right?) is not an admirable thing in my book.

Lack of reading comprehension skills on your part more likely. The percentage of highly talented people in any community or society is always very small, and its even smaller in the Somali community still licking its wounds from a collapsed country. That aside, nowhere did I insinuate that the other 98.5% are untalented, this was just a rough figure I remember from a European study on immigrant marriages that showed the vast majority of Somalis opted to marry one another, that without a doubt includes professionals and talented Somalis. However many of the high-profile marriages between non-Somalis and Somalis are completely logical when you analyse their environment and occupations.
