Jacaylbaro Posted March 31, 2011 The Somaliland government has refused to attend the Somali peace conference which United Nations is expecting to hold in Nairobi, Kenya in April, according to Somaliland Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdillahi Omar. The conference will bring together all sides of the Somali conflict including the federal government, the armed moderate group of Ahlu sunna, and the Galmudug and Puntland administrations. The UN hoped to bring northern Somali state of Somaliland, Somalia's break away region. “Somaliland does not take part in conferences which concern Somalia’s political situation. This conference is all about getting a way to change the transitional federal Somali government which its mandate will expire soon,” said Mr. Omar in an interview with Somalia Report. “There is no way to participate in such conference because Somaliland is an independent state looking for recognition” said Mr. Omar. In February, Somaliland participated in its first international conference which discussed the twenty year old crisis in Somalia. The conference, which took place in London, has led to an intense argument within Somaliland. Speaking about the differences between the London conference and the upcoming Nairobi conference, Mohamed Abdullahi Omar said the London conference was an international conference attended by several nations including the USA, UK and other European Unions. Mr. Omar described the upcoming Nairobi conference as a conference which relates only Somalia and its different functions. “We are ready to contribute our advices towards Somali peace process as other neighboring countries but we are not part of Somalia,” he said. He added that Somaliland President Ahmed M. Mohamoud Silanyo and UN special representative envoy to Somalia Augustine Philip Mahiga discussed the issue. He noted that the president reminded Mahiga that Somaliland is an independent nation and will not take part any conference about Somalia. Somaliland announced its independence in 1991 but twenty years later, has not yet received any international recognition. Saalax Posted March 31, 2011 ^^^ "isagoo si cad ugu sheegay inaanay Somaliland marnaba ka qayb gelayn shirkaas Nayrobi iyo mid kalen toona oo dawlad loogu dhisayo Somaliya. Sida uu Geeska Afrika xogtan ku helay madaxweynuhu wuxuu sheegay inay umadda Somaliland go’aansatay inay noqoto dal ka madaxbanaan wixii la isku odhan jiray Somaliya, sidaas daraadeedna aanay suurtogal ahayn inay shirar dib u heshiisiineed oo Somaliya ah ka qayb gasho. Waxase uu Madaxweynuhu ergayga u sheegay inay Somaliland taageersantahay in xal loo helo mushkiladda Somaliya islamarkaana ay diyaar u yihiin inay tallo iyo tusaale ku biiriyaan."
