Complete Posted March 22, 2011 Okay, I'll cut to the chase. Af Soomaaliga xooga wu igu adag yahay. I can carry a conversation here and there but I slip in a few English words. Don't get me started on elders. They want you to improve your Somali skills yet they nit pick waxad tiraahdid and leave a bad taste in your mouth. So much for motivation huh? Halkan waxa waye where positive folks assist me or others like me in defining words-yada nugu cusub and other grammatical questions. First question... Which one has a grammatical error: 1. Af Soomaaliga hodan ban KA ahay or... 2. Af Soomaaliga hodan ban KU ahay I understand ka is from and ku is to but which one makes more sense? Had a debate with a friend about this. Feedback please. Reasons would be appreciated as well . Gracias.
Valenteenah. Posted March 23, 2011 Maxaad uga jeedaa 'Af Soomaliga hodan baan ka ama ku ahay'? Afka ma shaleytaad soo baratay? Oh ok ok, am pulling your chain. Yacni silsiladaadaan jiidayaa. PS: There is no grammar in Somali - anything goes. Markaa, sidaad doonto ugu hadal.
Jacpher Posted March 23, 2011 ^What? No grammar? Don't tell me all those garaac in grade school was for nothing. Vans: None of them is correct. Here's the correct way of saying. 1. Af Soomaaliga hodan ma KA ahi or you can say 2. Af Soomaaliga hodan KU ma ahi. Your KA and KU are alright. You just had to add few letters before/after to make a good sense. Af-Soomaaliga in that way it's unique. You may say yesterday's date was labaatan iyo koow or koow iyo labaatan, both mean the same.
Valenteenah. Posted March 23, 2011 'Ana yaa ustaad' ayaan odhan jirey in grade school (my early schooling was in carabi). Jokes aside, I don't follow any grammatical rules in my spoken or written Somali (except for the masculine/feminine rule of course), however, I do believe I speak and write with perfect grammar. Weird.
Som@li Posted March 23, 2011 2." Af Soomaaliga hodan baan KU ahay" is more accurate me thinks....
Complete Posted March 23, 2011 ^Sabaab? Valenteenah: What a macalinmad you are. No grammar aa? Silsilada ha iga jiidin fadlan. Naqaska aa igu dhagay. Jacpher;704532 wrote: 1. Af Soomaaliga hodan ma KA ahi or you can say 2. Af Soomaaliga hodan KU ma ahi. So the KA in that sentence is a negation and the KU is an affirmation? Question will be written in red from now on iA. What the heck is maaweylo? What are the difference between baan/aan and aa/baa?
Som@li Posted March 23, 2011 Somali of course has a grammer, but it is natural for me, Ma fahantey? Bilaa sabab. Sabaab has different meaning? markaa in la is caayo ma fiicna...
Bashiir Posted March 23, 2011 Maaweylo = maa weelo = entertainment.. baan = nafaqo aan = ha na aanaysan ayaan maqli jirey, no idea what it means... aa iyo baa = ........qaamuska u kaaasho...
Blessed Posted March 23, 2011 Val, it's not weird, for most native speakers garmmar is learned naturally as they acquire language in a linguistically rich environment. Vans. wordska- ereyada. Both sentences are correct and although the meaning is essentially the same, the emphasis differs slightly. Af Soomaaliga hodan baan ku ahay- I am fluent in Somaali. Af Soomaaliga hodan baan ka ahay - My Somali is fluent. Hodan - lit meaning is rich.
