Ibtisam Posted March 9, 2011 Wa gimmicks for international donors to meet some of their funding expenditure and targets. I personally find it useless that there are specific days to celebrate certain things: Mothers day, fathers day, pancake day, Valentine day and so many other days. It is just commercialising issues that don’t need commercialising. I mean cards saying “happy women’s day, this day is dedicated to showing I appreciate you as a women and celebrate your achievements” err pi*ss off, particularly as there has been no real improvement in most places with regards to treatment of women and progress. It is patronizing, by posting about 10-20 feel good stories of women across the world it minimises the plight of so many others. Can I also point out that those stories normally come from societies that were already progressive in their nature; the rest of them was a case of her husband let her out to attend an event today- horray. Juxa Posted March 9, 2011 To be honest i did not even know until i saw glammed up ladies attending functions shalay at work.
Jacaylbaro Posted March 9, 2011 It is a good day believe me ....................... And it is not about funding & money ,,, it is much much bigger than that if u know what i mean
Ibtisam Posted March 9, 2011 ^^^@ Juxa No Bengalis don’t acknowledge WID- he told me; what you need to do in one day that you can't do the rest of the year? I said some fresh air, a movie and none spicy food please. So we opened the window, watched a movie and he cooked none spicy food JB; IWD happens each year regardless of any progress- and strangely enough I've seen then use last years case study for a few years- if it is about raising awareness then they should be doing that every day! and yes it is about funding and money- Women iyo progress and the core stones of the Millennium goals. Jacaylbaro Posted March 9, 2011 I said it is much much bigger than funding & Money ............ and the IWD is just a tool ,, an important tool for the issue.
Ibtisam Posted March 9, 2011 We will of course agree to disagree JB- I did not say was useless, but I find patronizing that there needs to be a day where women's economic, political and social achievements are celebrated- it is like really? Our local council gave the MEN the day off in the local library and closed sections and some closed the whole library for men, making it a women only access day. Everything is a tool- the problem is how you use it.
Juxa Posted March 9, 2011 Maybe a man's day is more appropriate as it is an area in need of development
Alpha Blondy Posted March 9, 2011 ibz, i thought you were at the forefront of the mission to save women?
Ibtisam Posted March 9, 2011 Alpha I am, I just don’t like gimmicks and commercialized stuff. Today(the day after) the hype is over and everyone goes to sleep for a year, only to come out and recycle the same old stories with no real progress. JUXA lol, there is no Man's day because they have the other 364.5 days it would seem
Valenteenah. Posted March 9, 2011 Yeah, IWD doesn't seem to have much impact these days.
