Blessed Posted February 12, 2011 Hmmmm. Somalis are unfortunately cursed with a different breed of 'leaders' and our situation is far more complex. This will sadly have disastrous consequences.
Mad_Mullah Posted February 12, 2011 The Egypt and Tunisia protests shamed Somalis. Why didn't they do the same thing in 1991? Instead of walking with Guns and rpgs and destroying their own country? Wallahi I dont get it!!! These filthy thugs destroyed their own city, I mean the actual place where they live !!! Why would anyone do that??
Cawaale Posted February 12, 2011 The two situations are quite different: in the case of Egypt and Tunis people are revolting against a dictator, while in the case of our sad country, we wish we had a dictatorship to revolt against.

Why would anyone do that?? The difference between Somalia in 1991 and today's Egypt and Tunisia is that the latter two enjoy a unified military command answering to the people, very similar to the Somali army's peaceful takeover in 1969. The Somali Military was once one of the most competent forces in Africa but then completely disintergrated at the hands of myopic commanders and a powerhungry dictator by the time it was 1991, remember that neither Dictators of these North African countries before their ouster had been fighting rebel movements for atleast three years. This means powerful militias already existed before the collapse of the state, therefore any sort of peaceful protests Somalis did in the capital were rendered irrelevant by these well-armed entities, neither the Tunisians or the Egyptians would have fared better in such a situation. Somali Peace Demonstrations, early 90s.

Somalina Posted February 15, 2011 Anti Al Shabaab-TFG Demostration in Mogadishu 13 February 2011 Mogadishu — Mogadishu young people on Sunday made anti Al shabaab-Somali transitional federal government demonstrations in the Somali capital Mogadishu. Hundreds of youth marched in the long street between KM4 and Benadir junctions as they were holding placards and boards written with words expressing how they are against the continuing conflict in the horn of Africa nation for more than two decades. The demonstrators were chanting slogans defying the young Somalis to be recruited by TFG or Al shabaab to stoke the ongoing violence in the capital. Jama'a Sa'id Qorshel, one of the demonstrators, told the media that they started the protests and they will continue until they succeed as the Egyptians and Tunisians overcame their leaders. In a related incident, at least 7 of the demo organizers were seized by Somali government forces and took them to custody.
