MoonLight1 Posted January 11, 2011 Qaranki, I believe S'landers lost the golden opportunity in the mid and late 1990s when the south was under the warlords and there was no recognised TFG, if Sland organised a conference in Hargeysa on that time and lobbied to be recognised as the capital of Somalia I believe the world would've done so and that would've opened the door for Somaliland to lure world embassies to Hargeysa and would've been easier for many somali politicians to let them go. But I still believe they can still break this ice "recognition" if they got it first from Mogadishu, and believe me there are still corridors of power in there since it is the only recognised government in Somalia, For example if few MPs or ministers raise the question of Sland independence in the parliament or cabinet meetings, will that not be positive thing for Sland? get your self into the dirty politics of the South then you broke the ice of Mogadishu first, you build on that until you get a whole lobby in the parliament and cabinet supporting your case, then you move to to break the international ice. Come on guys, I love Somalia to remain one but I am just being realistic and want you not to waste another 20 years on empty recognition promises. Qaranki Posted January 11, 2011 The TFG is worthless mate. They have no legitimacy to conduct the affairs of Somalia, their mandate is given to them by the UN and it'll be the UN who will decide in August whether on not to extend their term or throw them out of Villa Somalia. What an Epic waste of time it would be to ask Mogadishu for something when Mogadishu itself is run by an office in the New York.
Jacaylbaro Posted January 11, 2011 Moonlight ,,, thanks for making points. There are major developments in terms of recognition issue here that are coming soon.
Qandalawi Posted January 11, 2011 Moonlight good points there waryee. However, even if Somaliland is given the chance for a referendum it's unlikely that they can get a 70% percent turn out and vote for secession to be seperated from the county as the case in south Sudan. Almost half of the population in the former British Somaliland such Sool, Sanaag and Awdal including a great number of people in Hargiesa and Burco do not want secession. Hence, it would be a taught criteria to achieve. But then again, if you look at the situation in Somalia, honestly what do you have there right now and what hope is there to get Mogadishu to its glory days any time soon. Ilaahay rajadiisa lagama quusto but I doubt anything good is going to come out from Mogadishu maalmahan dhaw. Hence, I would prefer Somaliland/Puntland to be recognized any time, any day! At least hal il baa noo furmaysa!
