Somalina Posted May 9, 2011 Wasiirka Arrimaha Gudaha iyo Amniga qaranka C/shakuur Sheekh Xasan Faarax ayaa sheegay in Xildhibaanada Baarlamaanka ee maanta loo diiday inay dalka ka dhoofaan ay doonayeen inay si sharci daro dalka uga baxaan. Isagoo caawa wareysi siinayay Laanta Afka Soomaaliga ee BBC-da ayuu si cad ah u sheegay in isaga uu amray in Xildhibaanada la celiyo, maadaama uu sheegay in socdaalkooda ahaa mid aan waafaqsaneyn nidaamka dowliga iyo shuruucda sida uu hadalka u dhigay. "Wasaarada Arrimaha Gudaha oo aan anigoo wasiirka ugu horeeyo ayaa si amar ah ugu wargelinayay Ciidamada Ammaanka inay u joojiyaan Xildhibaanada aanay ka dhoofi karin Garoonka"ayuu yiri Wasiirka Arrimaha Gudaha. C/shakiir ayaa sheegay in Xildhibaanada Baarlamaanka ay xor u yihiin inay dalka ka dhoofaan, hase ahaatee ujeedkooda uu ahaa Xildhibaano Gudi sheeganayay oo doonayay inay dalka si sharci daro uga baxaan. "Gudi aan la ansixin oo aan shuruucda la waafajin sida Gudiyada kale ee Dastuurka iyo nidaamka Dowliga loo ansixiyay ayaan joojinay anaga, kuwaas sharci darada Gudigooda ahaa ayaan dib u celinay"ayuu lahjad kulul ku yiri Wasiirka Arrimaha Gudaha iyo Amniga Qaranka. Wasiirka ayaa xusay in cid kasta oo gaar ah oo shacab iyo Dowladda ka tirsan ay si sharci ah dalka uga dhoofi karaan, hase ahaatee tallaabadii maanta ayuu sheegay inay aheyd mid gaar ah oo lagu hor istaagay Gudi sharci daro ahaa. Ilaa 40-meeyo Xildhibaan ayaa maanta is-hortaag lagu sameeyay, kuwaas oo ahaa Gudiga Doorashooyinka Baarlamaanka ee uu dhowaan magacaabay Shariif Xasan, waxaana is hor taagaas ka dhashay buuq iyo gacan ka hadal dhex maray Xildhibaanada iyo Ciidamada Ammaanka. Arrintan ayaa ah mid sii horseedeysa khilaafka ka taagan Hey'adaha Dowladda, iyadoo tallaabada Wasaarada Arrimaha Gudaha qaaday ay tahay mid xasaasiyadeeda yeelan karta, taasi oo keeni karta inay dhacaan qalaan qal siyaasadeed iyo mid midi ku taag hor leh. Somalina Posted May 10, 2011 Grazie signori! -------------- Somali women and the pending presidential election Dear Associated Press Editor, There has been much ado in the Press lately about the pending elections in Somalia, for example, the Associated Press article of April 14, "Somali government rejects UN efforts to hold elections", and from Reuters on April 21, "Somalia government postpones vote to 2012 amid security crisis". I should be grateful for the opportunity to express my views. I was recently elected Chairwoman of the Somali National Women's Association, formally and by democratic vote in Mogadishu, and confirmed in late 2010, at a peace-building initiative network meeting called by the Regional Minister of Women and Family affairs in Punt land. Through this venue, Somali women are able to come together and express their views about peace and country infrastructure under the slogan, 'United Somali Women without Borders'. The meeting in 2010 represented 130 Somali women, both expat and those living in Somalia, who were ambassadors, academics, medical professionals, educators, and artists. At this meeting, we dedicated October 25th of each year to stand as "Somali Women's Peace Day". When we met in March 2011, we agreed to create a structured network that would aim to include several thousand women, who are willing to take part in the peace-building process. My letter today expresses support for delaying the Presidential elections, but for reasons that go beyond those already reported in the global news. At present, Somalia does not have the means to support viable Presidential elections before the Somali Constitution has been ratified. And most importantly, ratification of the new Constitution cannot take place without first creating necessary stability within the country's infrastructure. The Rights of Somali citizens should first be defined and implemented. These include, among others, the Rights of women and children, which should be granted in equal and relative measure to those of men, as well as the Right to life for all Somali citizens. This includes entitlement to education, health care, and legal identity across the country and without concern for regional or tribal distinctions. All Somali citizens must be granted and ensured the Right to live in peace and freedom without continual threat of war and insecurity, but they should also be granted the Right to vote democratically for their leaders. The latter should go hand-in-hand with ensuring the security-based concerns already expressed. Here, I attempt with all dignity as a Somali woman, to write about our problems with the practical, and yet firm, wisdom of a mother. Somalia is now in a state of infancy, and our country is in the process of creating developments that will carry us into the future as a strong and productive member of the global scene. However, Somalia needs first to repair the heavy losses we have incurred over the past 20+ years, due to civil unrest and war that has unjustifiably raged and rampaged through our lives. Further, we again face drought in many parts of the country, and people are again dying or being driven away due to natural disaster (and not only due to war and political conflict). Nevertheless, our traditional means to overcome drought, for example, are disrupted by conflicted tribal boundaries and people are simply not able to safely cross into drought-free areas to find food and sustainability. Against this tide, we therefore we need time to nurture the development of our political initiatives that will effectively generate the necessary infrastructure stability. We Somalis recognize that stability takes many forms, and thus, within our current democratic Government, we are in the process of addressing all facets of an operational Constitution. Doing so affords us the opportunity to learn from our past mistakes, as well as the mistakes of other African nations; we first and foremost need to eradicate corruption and lack of accountability in the way potential future leaders might conceptualize a leadership organization. To place pressure on having a Presidential election before its time has purposefully evolved, can potentially serve nothing more than to reinforce our already existing problems. For example, even our definition of "Federal Government" needs to be established. That there presently exists an individual with the title of "President" for each region within Somalia may not only be misleading, but may also undermine the bipartisan spirit of the federal identity. It is on matters such as this that I take great courage in the futuristic sight of our present, albiet transitional, political leaders, especially the Prime Minister, which is toward the horizon. I ask that the West not inadvertently force us into short-term thinking, which will only provide an inaccurate appearance of stability. Thus, the current democratic Government and Parliament are working together in cooperation for the first time in decades. Initiatives that positively affect the lives of Somali men, women and children are currently in development. I respectfully ask the western nations, as well as the United Nations, to take notice of our efforts and to give us positive credit for this momentum underway. From an insider perspective, such as mine, a premature election might place us once again into a situation where newly elected political players, having newly designed political agendas, will only serve to disrupt the current positive flow. Must we "reinvent the wheel" so early in this process? On behalf of the women of Somalia, I kindly ask for recognition of our efforts to effect real stability within Somalia, so that our current leaders can continue to solve our internal problems, as well as those resulting from the diaspora. Then, we can hope to ensure a proper platform for holding Somali Presidential elections within our own borders. Respectfully, Asha Omar Geesdiir Malmö, Sweden
