Any art students around?

We all know we've got plenty of engineering, physics, biology, med students. I was just wondering how many of you are studying a degree or have a job related to the arts, whether it be design, animation, illustration, film, music, literature, fine art, fashion etc.?

 

Are there any Somali art students around? Me, I'm doing a degree in Film Studies.

I know few Somali Art students, but only those who are creative and passionate about Arts would actually go to University/College to study.

 

Your average Somali would rather start a business/project (in an area such as Media/New Media) and do it Feed iyo Laag style, making the end product look like a home video with credits....There is more to Film than a script and a camera...Lets pay Attention to Detail and start catching up with the REST of the world ...

 

 

p.s. I have yet to see a Professionally produced Video/DVD by Somalis for Somalis.

That's so cool. What did your family say when you decided to do that? My immediate family was very supportive, but uncles and aunts, other relatives and almost every older Somali person I know are convinced I'll end up directing porn. :rolleyes:

 

For what use?

For the chance to express your passions and inspire others to do the same. Seriously, we need doctors, engineers etc. And I'd never compare my work to theirs in terms of value. But don't you think that we need art and entertainment after all these years of war and destruction. I think we as Somalis have a lot of powerful things we need to express to the rest of the world. By engaging in politics and social development, we can express the facts of our destructive situation, but only through art can we possibly explain our emotions as a people, and it's only through these emotions that the world can understand us in return.

Hey everyone :cool: , well yeah I got a Multimedia Module and they make us do all these kind of cinematography , video production and compositing; I am starting to work with 3ds Max (very st*pid piece of software) enjoyable though but as graphics goes I love my Photoshop BEST PEICE OF PROGRAM EVER DONE , started using illustrator too..! How about you?
