mojam Posted August 17, 2003 imperial lady allow me to make some corrections: B T J X KH D R S SH DH C G F Q K L M N W H Y vowels (short) A E I O U (long) AA EE II OO UU explanation: B as in Basement T as in Tag J as in mojam X as in arabic name Muhammad spelled in somali as Maxamad KH as in arabic name Kalid bin Walid(KHaalid somali spelling) D as in Dad R as in Rat S as in Same SH as in SHame DH neither english nor arabic have this C This one is tricky not as in cat but as in surah 80 of the Quran Abasa would be spelled in somali as Cabasa G as in Game F as in Fame Q as in the arabic word pen Qalam (surah 68 of the quran al-Qalam) K regular K L regular L M regular M N regular N W regular W as in world H as in hotel Y as in Yasin A as in C A T E as in NE T I as in TI N O as in boa t U as in YOU AA extended A EE as in jail II as in meat OO as in goal UU as in pool let me know if this makes things clearer ps Iska waran? = how are you? mojam Posted August 17, 2003 oh on the extended vowels let me add this. EE as in jail, thus jail would be spelled in somali as jeel II as in meat, thus meat would be spelled in somali as miit OO as in goal, thus goalwould be spelled in somali as gool UU as in pool, thus pool would be spelled in somali as puul

Abwaan Posted March 29, 2004 Yusufaddie and those who are interested in learning Somali, here is a question for you: What level are you in Somali? I mean do you ? Speak/Read/Write ? Rate yourselves are you? Beginners/Intermediate/Advanced . NB: This will make it easy for those who are willing to teach you Somali to set up a proper lesson plan for you. Look forward to hearing from you,

The Observer. Posted April 3, 2004 about time someone starts this indeed, i always ask around the communities about having somali language classes. but i guess the first thing you say u are somali and don't speak somali everyone laughs at you. mojam, that was well presented, thankyou, question to those who know the language so well, how is the sentence structure like? is it like french to english, swahili to english, arabic to english?
