Somalia: UN Envoy Sets Goal Of August 2011 For Professional Security Force

New York, Oct 12 2009 4:10PM A professional, well-organized security force must be established in Somalia by August 2011, the end of the mandate of the current Transitional Federal Government (TFG), if peace and stability are to be assured, the top United Nations envoy for the strife-torn country said today.

“If well utilized, this is a reasonable period to rebuild the initial element of your country’s security forces,” Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah told a Joint Security Committee (JSC) meeting of Somali officials and interested partners in Nairobi, capital of neighbouring Kenya.

“We all are here to help, not to study or to delay our contribution to what is a joint undertaking between you and the international community… Security forces should be better organized and strengthened. What has been achieved since the 7 May attempted coup is great but more needs to be done,” he added, referring to a surge in armed violence targeting the TFG then.

The JSC was established in January under agreements signed in Djibouti between the TFG and some Islamist groups to strengthen the Government’s security capacity. Its members include senior representatives of the TFG security institutions, the African Union and its peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM), the UN and other members of the international community, including the European Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in East Africa, the Arab League, Norway and the United States.

Mr. Ould-Abdallah singled out AMISOM for its work under such adverse conditions. “The courage of the AMISOM troops and their heroic conduct will never be fully appreciated at their true value,” he said.

He called on Somali leaders to continue their commitment to dialogue and working together more closely to achieve peace and stability in a country that as been ravaged by factional fighting and has not had a functioning central government since 1991.

He also urged the international community working to remain focused on key priorities including security, humanitarian assistance, human rights

Ah Dukey , my friend. * Shakes his head*

I’m sorry to witness your ever lasting signs of bitterness.

Some times we need to swallow our pride and accept realities.

1. Uncle Yey is not and will not be missed.

2. Even if they aren’t given the chance to do their duties, this Government will always have more credibility then those we saw taking orders from Col.Gabre.( credit to channel 4),

3. Every time you slander The President and the Islamic government of Somalia, it gives us a better insight to what sort of Somali nationalist you where to beggin with under Gabre’s era.

^^^The only problem here is simple; you keep changing like Sharif Hotel keeps changing his principles. :D

Adeer the whole policy of this government which does not control a single village, town, city or district in all of Somalia. Even the airport, port, villa Somalia is in the hands of AMISOM and the Bakara is burning.

Your point is that you are happy with all these development because Yusuf Yey is no longer the President?

That’s the level of intelligence we are dealing with here. The fact that your agenda has failed, that the civilians you used to pretend to care about are in worse situation than they have been in 20 years, that the Bakara that housed the loot you sued to protect has just been shelled heavily this morning, that your hero Sharif has failed misrabbly and is considered the worst leader in all of Somali history does not matter?

Yusuf Yey devastated his enemies; he captured Mogadishu and disarmed your militias. Yusuf Yey’s base is secure, peaceful and under new leadership. Thus what is your point, a new name does not hide the fact that you have failed even worse than one thought.

Now where is Sharif Hotel, when Walid Abdalla is outlining the startegy of the Somali "government" :D

Wait a minute.

Why are you suddenly surprised at the behaviour of UN's (Walad abdall) towards Somali affairs? As if they ever were a non-factor in Somali politics?

Or maybe you thought they were out for Somalia’s best interest when they authorized and accepted Uncle Yeys pleads for Ethiopian intervention?

SO tell me, why have they become such an extraterrestrial factor in Somali politics now?

Or maybe you’re not so comfortable with them any longer since this time around Uncle yey is not there to partake in any havoc aimed at the Somali people while partially protecting a common enclave hence besieging the nations capital with unnecessary violence and wreckage!

Note : all this twaddle after Uncle Yey is disposed off like a tampon.

Don’t get emotional lad it highlights lack of confidence. Lets deal with facts, Sharif Hotel and his many nice sounding endeavors have brought total devastation to Somalia in general and to his clan supporters in particular. Today he is a laughing stock and the vindicator of the legacy of the Legend from Puntland.

Yusuf resignation has emboldened his supporters, new leaders have emerged in Puntland state, and confidence is high within the base both at home and in the Diaspora.

Contrast this fact to hapless Sharif and his government, at loggerheads, a man who sold his principles to wear an Armani suit. Yet the most bizarre issue is that Walid Abdalla is outlining the security policy for the TFG. Sharif hotel has not given this target, this goal and its an envoy who is clearly pulling the strengths, holding press conferences on behalf of the Somali government. He even makes offers to the likes of Xasan Dahir that “if they reprent, they can come out of the cold”. This is laughable.

Now your whole agenda has failed, you can blame a retired warrior who devastated your clan militia and set your hegemonic day dreams back to the Stone Age. Or you can face facts and start looking for new leaders. From Ali Mahdi, Aydeed, Aydeed Jr, Abdiqasin and Sharif Hotel, one does not have any confidence you will chose any better.
