Muhammad Posted October 16, 2003 Jews rule the world - Mahathir Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has called on Muslims to use brains as well as brawn to fight Jews who "rule the world". However, Dr Mahathir also called on Muslims to build their military might. "The Europeans killed six million Jews out of 12 million. But today the Jews rule this world by proxy... 1.3 billion Muslims cannot be defeated by a few million Jews," he said, speaking at the opening of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference in the Malaysian administrative capital Putrajaya. Dr Mahathir, who is renowned for using such conferences to make scathing attacks on the West, bows out as prime minister in a week's time after a 22-year rule. Annan warning In contrast to Dr Mahathir's words, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan used his statement to the conference to warn of the growing gulf between Islam and the West. "There is, in too many places, a feeling of rising hostility between Islam and the West. This is ugly, dangerous and wrong," said the statement, delivered by the UN's special representative to Afghanistan, Lakhdar Brahimi. "There is nothing natural or inevitable about the sad state in which so much of the Islamic world finds itself today," he said. "The Muslim peoples are capable of much greater things and they know it," he said. Window of opportunity But Dr Mahathir's comments were uncompromising. "This tiny [Jewish] community has become a world power. We cannot fight them through brawn alone. We must use our brains as well," the prime minister said. He spoke of the futility of terrorism and the hopelessness of Palestinian armed resistance but demanded Muslims forge a greater unity. He said that 50 years of fighting had only worsened the situation for Palestinians and urged engagement in negotiations. "The Koran tells us that when the enemy sues for peace we must react positively. True the treaty offered to us is not favourable. But we can negotiate - the Prophet did," he said. However, he also urged Muslims to match their religious studies with mathematics and science, because "we need guns and rockets, bombs and warplanes, tanks and warships for our defence". He told the conference that Jewish "arrogance" meant that they would "forget to think". "They are already beginning to make mistakes. And they will make more mistakes. There may be windows of opportunity for us now and in the future. We must seize these opportunities," he said. New challenges The OIC brings together 57 national leaders representing more than a billion Muslims worldwide. This week's conference is the first time the group has met since the 11 September attacks. The US-led war on terrorism is dominating the meeting's agenda. The leaders will also discuss their stance towards the American occupation of Iraq.

LANDER Posted October 16, 2003 This man speaks of the feelings of I would say well over 90% of muslims worldwide. If only the weakling arab leaders in the middle east had the courage to think and act the same way.
Muhammad Posted October 16, 2003 It takes guts to say and do what this man does. I hope Malaysia can transform the OIC into a proactive and productive organization Insha'Allah.
Bachelor Posted October 16, 2003 They (Americans and Jewish) were expecting some harsh Criticism from this noble man. Though, he said it at his last year of his ruling, it is a big wake up call to both Muslims and Non Muslims.

Saxardiid Posted October 16, 2003 i totally agree what Dr Mahathir has said. in this world the most organised people rule it and this time it happens to be the Jew. if Muslims organise themselves and use their brain more, then we going rule this world for the better. i hope his courage inspires more Muslim leaders to understand the main issues for the Muslims and say it in public so they send right message to Muslims and non Muslims that we don't accept humiliation. best wishes
Lefty Posted October 17, 2003 Mahathir is rageedii..What a great and true leader who doesn't shy away for speaking of the real truth. This is one of his amazing quotes in that Conference. He's referring to the Jews! "They survived 2,000 years of pogroms not by hitting back but by thinking," Mahathir said. "They invented socialism, communism, human rights and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so that they can enjoy equal rights with others." Matkey Posted October 17, 2003 Dr. Mahathar’s remarks or statements about Jews being dominant in the world will not alleviate our hardship and humiliation. What he said is what almost every Muslim feels, and therefore expressing it openly in front of whole will not change the Muslim conditions. On the contrary, Jews may use these statements as one of their methods to perpetuate their attack on muslim while advancing their dormant ambitions (confiscation of Muslim land through extinction of Muslims people). In my humble opinion we don’t need to get emotional or rejoiced every time some politicians (Muslim or non-Muslims) make such remarks about the Jews
Rahima Posted October 18, 2003 May Allah bless Dr. Mahathir, even if one does not agree with him, it is a must that they admit he is indeed a strong leader. I’m thinking he should teach a few lessons to the Arabs- some lessons on how to be real men instead of American lackeys. But what i love most is the way he gives John Howard nightmares

It doesn't change much, true...but the encouraging thing is that a Muslim head-of-state has finally spoken openly...too bad he did it at the end of his political career. And too bad other current head-of-states are keeping quiet.
Modesty Posted October 19, 2003 I agree with Dr. Mathir. However, I would say that he is not the first muslim or muslim leader to have made such statements. The truth is words don't really matter, they disappear into the air, what matters is action, they're visible. We muslims have been hypernating for a long time. Most of the above nomads said that the "loser"arabs don't have the courage, although I agree with you, I think they have the right to be that way, what can they do, they don't have nuclear weapons, and so they must kiss butt. Thirdly, as muslims we should work as a community, because just selfish individual success doesn't really help the oppressed muslims, and non-muslims. We need to work as a community. Just as I'm telling you this, I'm not practicing it, because I am in the category of selfish individual, I hope to change that, inshallah.
