Camel Mlik Posted November 1, 2005 Ethiopia: Violence in Addis Tue. November 01, 2005 12:10 pm. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/mapshells/africa/ethiopia/ethiopia.htm Ethiopia (SomaliNet) Addis Ababa Police clashed with opposition supporters, killing at least five people and wounding more than twenty. These clashes came after the government arrested members and supporters of the opposition party. The government is claiming the police used force in self-defense. However, people at the scene said the police were not in any danger when they started shooting indiscriminately, even shooting at bystanders. In western region of Gambella, Anuak rebels attacked police stations and killed at least twenty people, including state police chief. Anuaks have long fought with the government accusing state police of human rights abuses. Addis Ababa's clashes and arrests stem from last May's elections in which the opposition party charges Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and his party rigged the results and intimidated voters. Landlocked Ethiopia has borders with five East African nations, Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea. Instability in the country would have great impact on all East Africa. Somalia is a prime example of what happens when governments are overthrown and the vacuum is not filled immediately. Hundreds of thousands of Somalis left the civil war that followed the overthrow of Somalia's last functioning government and are now scattered throughout the world. Thousands lost their lives in high seas trying to reach the Middle East or southern Europe. News Category: Africa Send this news article
Jabhad Posted November 2, 2005 The West will not allow Ethiopia to become a "failed state" as long as Ethiopia remains in the hands of the Christian minority and an ally of the West.

THAT IS THE ONLY REASON ETHIOPIA HAS STAYED ALIVE ALL OF THESE YEARS. POLITICS IN ETHIOPIA IS MORE CONFUSING THAN SOMALI POLITICS. ONE EAST AFRICAN FAILED STATE IS ENOUGH FOR THE WEST. Bachelor Posted November 2, 2005 Waxaad moodaa iney sheekadii Soomaaliya ay ku so socoto. They will be not only failed state soon INSHA ALLAH but will take a worst than Ruwanda genocide. Whether west like it or not, things are in a bad situation. Once this guy (Meles) is realize that he is about to loss his power, he will inact the artcle 39. Which is every region will gain its independece from the Ethiopia. That is the only solution that will bring Ethiopia peace.

Bachelor Posted November 2, 2005 They got no love for me SXB. I am not hating but that is the reality from the tension point of view. Their stablity is not helping neither Somalia nor Somali poeple be it inside or outside their country. Their stability resulted rape, oppression, inslut, killing, and collective punishment based on "guilt by association". So i have no reason to love those who treat my people in such degrading manner. I dont think you would wish them the best had you immediate family is those who are affected by it. Anyways, this protest is mainly driven by CUD (which is Amxaro gangs) good old day nostalgic memory of ruling ethiopia as if the whole country is belonging to them and only them. Anyone else is less ethiopian and unacceptable to rule the country.
Sky Posted November 2, 2005 It would be a good thing if Ethiopia disintegrates and breaks up into multiple republics. A lot of peoples that don't consider themselves Ethiopian would be free at last. Not to mention that in this situation, Somalia could become a regional superpower again. Well there is always hope.
