The sad and dire situation we are in had once again exampled by the unimaginable killing of a prominent optometrist in Muqdisho the other day by unknown assailants. Dr. Xuseen Maxamed Nuur {Xuseeney} had been gunned down in just a few kilometres away from where he works, Mount Sinai hospital. Dr. Xuseen is best known for being one of the best eye specialists in Soomaaliya, and to others he is best known as the brother of Xasan Maxamed Nuur Shaatigaduud, a warlord. By killing an eye specialist--which we don't have many to begin with--I don't know what those bandits lack--whether lacking the good morality of human nature or the tedency of enjoying murdering and kidnapping the professionals, members of the public and innocents. I hope he wasn't murdered because of only having a brotherhood blood with a warlord. Ilaahey ha u naxariisto. How sad. And he wasn't killed because of his qabiil or vengeance of some unsettled disputes. king_450 Posted July 7, 2003 This is very touching story,and it really affects me personally.To pick up a gun and aim it at another(Docotor) human being and to fire, it's not a human thing to do,It's not nice. It's not pleasant. It's gory, it's bloody. It overcomes every human instinct. the only thing that would be worse to me , would be to do nothing , and to allow those killers loose, if the so called Somali gov, in that region don't act quickly, don't count those of us who are hoping to return in these killing fields, you guys better act quickly and find those thugs. Dr Husayn Muhammad Nur, one of the best eye specialists in Mogadishu, and younger brother of faction leader Hasan Muhammad Nur Shatigadud, was gunned down in front of his clinic by unidentified gunmen on 3 July. The work stoppage was called by the Somali Medical Association (SMA) and supported by all civil society organisations, including groups from the education sector, religious organisations and the business community, association member Dr Abdullahi Farah Aseyr said. According to Aseyr, "all hospitals, clinics and other medical facilities" in the capital were closed for the day. He said the stoppage affected "all routine work" and that only emergency cases were being treated. Aseyr stressed that insecurity in the city, in particular the targeting of medical staff, was undermining their work. "We have had medical staff abducted and some maimed or killed," he said. The aim of the strike was to encourage the residents of Mogadishu to take a stand against lawlessness and rampant crime, and to "make them understand that doctors and other professionals are resources Somalia can ill afford to lose". It was also intended to put pressure on the various factions to take responsibility for what happens in areas under their control. "We want them to understand that this lawlessness cannot go on, and they must find a way to set up an all-inclusive administration capable of halting the current crime wave," he said. Since the beginning of the civil war in 1990, over 27 doctors and some 50 other health professionals have been killed, while many more have left the country.
