General Duke Posted August 4, 2010 one-subclan based admins in the 60s who all were guilty of nepotism and corruptions and who done nothing good to the somali nation. Unlike them, MSB had built up an state and reputable army, implemented 1st time the Somali language, How is it then that this man rose to the rank of head of the army if the whole country was run by a sub clan? Oh the falacy and how it does not hold water. Anywho he inherited a young nation with problems in 1969. and left it in 1991 as ? He is a historic figure, and AUN, but lets not underplay the 21 years rule. The original warlord, who used the Somali army against its own people. The Zack Posted August 4, 2010 Alla Magan made some good points. The fact that Somalia was way better off under Siyad's admin is undeniabl and undisputable. Its proof is today's chaos. His government had a lot of faulties but in no way it was any thing close to where we are at today. Some people's claim of "he made sure the country collapsed before he left and he didn't do what mengistu did, leave the country pecefully" and " he divided the clans and what so" is just pathetic and have no legs to stand on. Taariikhda ninba dhankuu jecel yahay buu u fasirtaa illeen. Allaha u naxariisto Jaalle Siyaad.
Saalax Posted August 4, 2010 The Zack, it's true siad barre AUN never gave up the power until the last minute he even asked kenya to arm his militia and help him recapture mogadishu, but Aided AUN was having non of that and threatened kenya if they interefered he would attack the NFD and beyond. General Duke Posted August 4, 2010 Zack how much better would Somalia have been if he gave up, say in the 1980s or even in 1990 for a political settlement? No he ran around untill the last minute and helped create this madness we have been ever since..

ANTARA Posted August 4, 2010 His legacy speaks for itself and today's Mogadishu is his legacy. Allah's mercy isn't a shirt that fits everybody, you have to earn it. I'm almost tempted to paraphrase a famous Somali song: Allahyoow nin daacada Allahayoow nin daalina Naxariistada ha u simin

xiinfaniin Posted August 4, 2010 On late Barre, one acknowledges that although he altered Somalia’s democratic trajectory for good twenty years, the man did a lot of good work including his projects for literacy, his focus on military build up, and his drive for urbanizations. His greatest failure is not that he defended his seat from worse men than he was but one laments on the fact that he lacked both the leadership and vision to compromise to save Somalia from the then looming implosion. We used to grumble a lot about Barre dictatorial rule only to realize that at least Somalis had dignity and pride in living in their own country and state however dictatorial or oppressive…in hindsight the man fares well in the face of the failed leadership that came after him to assume his capacity. It’s fair to say in comparison of the leaders before him, Barre was a failure. Allow kuu naxariiso
Captain_Mike20 Posted August 4, 2010 Siad Barre was a communist, they dont even believe in the concept of God. All i have to thank him for is his ignorance, thank you for your ignorance, thank you for your hate and your blind ********* a 6 year old could have ruled a nation better. It is from this ********* the somali's disintegrated and it is this that made its pheonix rise from the ashes..i.e. Somaliland Republic. The last words of Siad Barre.. "In the time i was in power my three goals were to stop hargaisa from succedeing, to stop bosaso from starving and to keep weapons from the hands of mugdisho's population". looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool, so ironic !
