Why do Somalis love censorship?

Recommended Posts

Why is every Somali an amateur propagandist?

Why is portraying your tribe or government in a positive light more important than exposing corruption or abuses of power?

Why does noone involved in or related to the governments involved speak out against the imprisonment of journalists brave enough to do their jobs properly and impartially?

This is a serious problem to any political future for Somalia. If serious issues cannot be discussed within communities, there is no check to corruption or abuse of power.

It's like a commentator was saying a few months ago, you can tell what tribe or region someone is from nowadays by what they claim and deny, what view they push or suppress, and whom they praise or condemn.

This sort of collective "hive mind" does not bode well for the future.

We do that here in Somaliland all the time (not even most of the time) ...... All the newspapers except one owned by the government speak against the government. That is why they sometimes get arrested.

In Somalia i know the situation is different and we have to understand what is going on there.

James you are member of the Somali forum also known as the Somali troll-heaven. You have seen how corrupt this conflict has made young teenagers thousands of miles away from the conflict, you have observed countless of threads where the most inhumane incidents are used as a 'diss' towards another group

Somalis are a 'shame driven society' not a guilt driven society ,a very complexed one if i may add, some will do everything they can to hide or supress any non flattering accussations thrown at an entity they feel close to and this could be a warlord, a government or an artist on the run.

The government officials are scum they are similar to members of the maffia, in the case of the latter you would never ask yourself why one of it's members wouldn't speak out against the actions of the 'family'. From this point of view should you view the TFG and it's supporters

there is a silent majority and they are the ones opening doors to their fellow brethren who have just lost everything, they are the ones (as i said before in a different topic) keeping children in schools and building hospitals. They are the ones risking their own lives to report the inhumane attrocities that are being inflicted on the masses( those responsible are pretty pissed off with these brave reporters)

Thing is ten unarmed doctors are not as powerfull as two armed wastedumpers, twenty male and female teachers are not as powerfull as two militia men, Somali entrepreneurs setting up security companies will not make the roadblocks dissappear but if all of them supported honest community leaders this could result in the destruction of warlordism but community leaders are not equipped to deal with invading foreign mercenary armies

When the geo-political landscape of the world changes and neighbouring and homegrown dictators have no piggybank to cash on this silent majority will hit HARD and DECISIVE and all those responsible regardless of their background will pay!

Very good anaylsis, though there are some good journalists who report and write abt the truth, the main reason for what you described is, most journalists are fighting thier own war, fighting another clan/group thru the pen, they are filled with hatred for other groups, clans, and holds the same mentality, ideas as the warlords,so the journalists are used to propagate hatred.
