The men who pulled up in three white pickup trucks were looking for Patson Chipiro, head of the Zimbabwean opposition party in Mhondoro district. His wife, Dadirai, told them he was in Harare but would be back later in the day, and the men departed.

 

An hour later they were back. They grabbed Mrs Chipiro and chopped off one of her hands and both her feet. Then they threw her into her hut, locked the door and threw a petrol bomb through the window.

 

The killing last Friday – one of the most grotesque atrocities committed by Robert Mugabe’s regime since independence in 1980 – was carried out on a wave of worsening brutality before the run-off presidential elections in just over two weeks. It echoed the activities of Foday Sankoh, the rebel leader in the Sierra Leone civil war that ended in 2002, whose trade-mark was to chop off hands and feet.

Africa is home to many dictators of all kinds. Western media is suffering from a Zimbabwe disease (read mad cow diseas). Ask yourself the question of why Zimbabwe is in the news? Mugabe came to power in the 70s and has since pursued a policy of dictatorship; ´Western media/intellecia loved him as long as he was killing africans. When he discovered that his hold on to power was coming to an end , he orders the beating of white farmers- and hell broke out on the massmedia front. Where was the media when he was butchering africans (blacks).?

 

Additionally, why are they obsessed with Zimbabwe when Somalia is under occupation from Ethiopia from a dictator (who has incidently imprisoned killed the oppisition). Meles is murdering people in Somalia galbeed. No one talks about this.

 

I am not condoning what Mugabe is doing but the writing is on the wall. As long as africans are killing each other- hakuna mtata. But when there is race/religion involved the dogs of war (massmedia) is there. Double standards

Well, Meles Zenawi is far worser than Mugabe, and he has just been promised more and more aid as well as rescue plan out of Somalia! Double standards!

The economy is wild (largely due to IMF and World Bank restrctions) and the country is going down fast. But in terms of the atrocities, it is not as severe as the Anglo-saxons propagate.
