Silaanyo should not rush to the Palace

As President Silaanyo prepares to move to the Presidential palace, he will be best served to look back at the words of wisdom of perhaps the greatest Somali poet of modern era, Axmed Ismail Diiriye (Qaasim). Mindful that Dahir Rayaale comes from an area which has a disproportionate number of Astrologists, he doesn't need to rush to his new house.

I don't put too much stock in theological concepts like divine justice, but I'm tempted to assent to it's truth. It's exceedingly fitting that one of the former chairman of the Somali National Movement, a man who decried political debauchery - misfeasance, nepotism, extortion, autocracy, bribery, suppression - has been elected president in a free and fair democratic process. How divinely fitting, indeed. Qaasim, though not a historian by trade, summarized the struggle for freedom and democracy with these pithy verses:

Nowhere is the harrassment and violation of rights of beelaha la-hayb-soco is appalling as it is in Somaliland and Somaligalbeed. As a member of the 'untouchable' clans of Somalia, I can compare which hell is the hottest.

These lines are very true. But I will see you telling the ONLF to put down their arms and go for an oppressive 'peace'. Guushu waa lagama daalan is very powerful message.
