David Cameron Backs Turkey's Bid to Join European Union

By STEPHEN CASTLE

Published: July 28, 2010 BRUSSELS - David Cameron, the British prime minister, on Tuesday sharply criticized opponents of Turkey's membership in the European Union, echoing concerns voiced in the United States that the bloc was doing too little to anchor Ankara within the West.

On his first visit to the Turkish capital since becoming prime minister in May, Mr. Cameron likened France's opposition to Turkey's bid for membership to the French veto of Britain's bid to become part of the European Union's forerunner in the 1960s.

This goes against what the French president wants Nicolas Sarkozy, I don’t think turkey now and days is that determent to be part of the European union.

Xaaji, I agree eventhough Turkey exports 70% of its products to Europe. It has been painful experience for the people of Turkey to deal with the denial of their application just because they have borders with a volatile region (Iran, Syria and Iraq). I think Turkey as a member of EU can strengthen the euro currency and provide relief the debt-strapped countries in terms of more relaxed trade.
