Dr. Noor has come to New York to meet with officials in the UN Secretariat as well as diplomats from Security Council members. He was received by Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe and other UN officials dealing with the Horn of Africa.

He also met permanent members of the Security Council, including the United States and Great Britain. Other meetings included the delegations of Italy and Belgium and Norway. In addition, Dr. Noor held discussions with political analysts who pay close attention to events that are of critical importance to Africa.

During his stay in New York, Dr. Noor, aims to strengthen Somaliland’s relationship with the United Nations Secretariat as well as with individual member states. His visit coincides with Security Council deliberations on Somalia as well as a visit by the Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.

Dr. Noor’s intention is to lay out Somaliland’s views and concerns regarding the situation in neighboring Somalia. Somaliland requests that, through its policies and responses towards the situation in Somalia, the United Nations and in particular the Security Council acknowledge its existence and needs as a separate entity. Likewise, the international body should be keenly aware that the problems of Somalia as a whole could not be solved without also addressing the issue of Somaliland.
