Jabhad Posted November 24, 2005 Leslie urged to give up modelling career Islamic leaders say it would be offensive to other Muslims if convicted drug user Michelle Leslie resumed underwear modelling when she returns to Australia. During her trial, lawyers for Ms Leslie explained she was wearing a burqa covering her face and body because she was a Muslim. The Australian model, originally from Adelaide, walked free from a Bali prison on Saturday after her three-month sentence for the possession of ecstasy tablets expired. She is expected to return to Australia later this week. But Australian Federation of Islamic Councils' president Dr Ameer Ali says Ms Leslie should not return to her career as an underwear model. "She must now come out and confess clearly to the public that she is still a Muslim or if she's still a Muslim she should give up this modelling business," he said. "There is a sense of modesty in the way we dress as a Muslim, the way we speak as a Muslim, the way we behave as a Muslim - that's in every religion." Meanwhile federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley says Ms Leslie should not profit from her case, saying it would be unacceptable if the 24-year-old sold her story. "I'm against chequebook journalism and if you've got a story to tell, you tell it and you tell all the media what your story is and if you don't want to tell your story and you want to keep your privacy, you put your hand up against the paparazzi and tell them to go away," he said. I see nothing wrong with modelling but respect those who do. However, I find these self-proclaimed 'muslim leaders' repugnant. For they insult our intelligence by telling us this model, Leslie, is somehow 'offensive' to us muslims. When what is trully offensive to us muslims is being forced to migrate to the West -- the supposed land of filth, moral decadence, scantily dressed women strolling the sidewalks, of pornography, liquor, pork eating, abortions... because the muslim world is that bad...failed by these 'muslim leaders.' THAT is offensive to us muslims muslim leaders!
