Samafal Posted July 3, 2008 Since I joined this Website 6 years ago, I always thought that the reason why people like myself come here were to socialise and spend some Time online with like minded Somali people. However, over the years I have seen this website becoming the life line of some people where they have emotional attachment and something that they can not be without. More over, this website has became a base for people who want to bring about 'change' specially political change. They think by convincing the crowds here they think they will impact the people on the ground. They write long thesis, exchange messages, stay online until late etc Wether you agree with this or not, some people spend unpropotionate of their precious time by trying to achieve this unachievable goals wasting their time that they would have otherwise used to help to better themselves and their communities. Therefore, my questions to you all are 1.How does SOL help you? 2. Do you believe you influnce on people by urguing for your political thinking? If so how does this bring change where its needed. 3. Do you think SOL is addictive and have long wasted your precious time? 4. What do you think is the best way of balancing the pleasure that is SOL and your other important commitments? Your thoughts are welcome.
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted July 4, 2008 It is just an extended interaction of daily life, whether this platform is online or not. Nothing more or less. People just share their opinions. So you were one of the lurkers, err silent readers, I see. Do you also have an "emotional attachment" yourself to be a frequent silent reader of this site as well? Samafal Posted July 4, 2008 MMA you could have been helpful if you addressed the questions. Its not just a simple interaction (fadhi ku dirir), some people live by it and die by it and have no social interaction outside the net. Yes, this is true for small minority but nevertheless needs addresing, given how many talents are being wasted that could have otherwise been the futute back bone of our cvommunities in here and in our country. About me, I do hang around here and there and contribute one or two posts once in blue moon and hence I could not possibly have emotional attachment as my contribution is minimum. If I put it in short how do SOL help you? and what its your advice to people mentioned above.
Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar Posted July 5, 2008 Are you serious about those questions? Kamoon. Its not just a simple interaction (fadhi ku dirir), some people live by it and die by it and have no social interaction outside the net. I don't know how you came up with this. What did you base on this, especially after your admission of coming to this site "once in the blue moon"? Oh, you were a silent reader, but only posted once in a while, I see. How does SOL help its members? How of what? I don't know how SOL helps its members. It is just a social website, an interactive one, a virtual e-gathering of us nomads around the world. It facilitates our e-meetings more easily and sharing our thoughts, opinions with ourselves. Probably you were referring to this fact, but I don't know if that can be defined as a helping tool. Perhaps to a Soomaali who lives where there hardly is any fellow Soomaali around. If this is the case, then most of us live in large cities with too many Soomaalis. This site, once again, brings together us nomads together online and more easily to share our opinions and ideas. It is also a clean, friendly site, which is a bonus. Samafal Posted July 7, 2008 Denial is river in Egypt. Sxb don't get me wrong I got nothing against this great website and I am sure it helps a lot of people who don't happen to live near any Somalis etc, but it also disadvantages small number of users who are addicted to the website and to the Internet in general. How could we help them was my question and the reason behind starting this discussion. The least you could do was give your advice to this young men and women instead of smelling coffee! I am not making up anything they exist and I know them in real life. Just go through this website, you will see people posting and replying to hundred posts in a day and repeating this act day after day, add that to the time they spend reading other people's replies, its day's work. These are young men and women who could have used all these time applying jobs, revising on their College and university lectures, and basically doing something meaningful for their Lives, but all on the drain. Its sad.

Yacquub to socialise and spend some Time online with like minded Somali people Even if we had an iota of such resemblence LSK would have been a PM in Somalia by now - the fact that we are diverese and staunchly contradictory makes a worthwhile in SOL politics . And it doesn't serve any other purpose other than to interact with 'possibly compatible' peers online.

STOIC Posted July 7, 2008 Your inquisitive questions are rather poking and uncomfortable for me, Saxiib. Now I feel like a bereft looser. Here I thought Reading some of the replies in this site is a route to increasing my comprehension abilities and Somali political tug-of-war. People (including myself) roam this site for "erudition". I didn’t know I was one of this alienated loners grasping for political transcendence in their homeland. Instead of blaming the dog on eating my homework every time I visit here I should have got my priorities straight. Now What do I got? A questionable diploma far removed from reality? The intellectual ambitious scarecrow would have got this diploma without any effort. Now you made me gnaw away aggressively and vengefully at this place. I must be too dumb not to know that I was wasting my time here. With a feeling of a frost on my fingertips I promise never to respond to these desolate people again. I blame all this on my unfavorable hereditary, insufficient education, and lack of ambition to aim above this mediocrity.I promise to aim higher next time IA Wabilahi tawfiq akhi! Fabregas Posted July 7, 2008 War Meeshu it's like a makhayaad! The topics discussed here ar no different, if not entirely identical. The only difference is that it's cyber and the nomads can pull off sophisticated arguments in support of their home townc/kisnmen/ region in Queens English or classical Somalih ! Other than that; it's called technology! As for what purpose SOL serves: It's only words on a screen, words on a screen!(As Ngone would say). ps. SOL is used by well known Professors such as the greek DR Muhammad and: quote: Somalia Online's forum, better known as Camel Milk Threads, is the most respected opinion forum for the Somalis. Camel Milk Threads is where big name media outlets such as the Guardian and the Star Tribune come to find diverse opinions on Somali issues. This discussions forum has been recommended by the BBC and is quoted by numerous websites.
Castro Posted July 7, 2008 What purpose does SOL serve for you? A convenient, one-stop shop to evaluate potential minyaros located over several continents.
