Farmaaje’s Thesis [Book] sparks controversy in Mogadishu, [Download Book]

Recommended Posts

Although Siad Barre successfully
crushed
two previous insurgent organizations (SNM and SSDF), the United Somali Congress (USC), formed in 1989, succeeded to topple the dictator already weakened and losing the support of his people as well as financial assistance from the U.S. and European countries.

Do they look like that they ware crushed on this Video when they can organize army of thousands men inside Somalia

When they can organize their regular congress and elect new leader inside Somalia (from Siilanyo to A/rahman Tuur in Baligubadle )

I found it frightening that Farmaajo would diminish the dignified struggles of Somali clans in that epoch of tyranny, to nothing more than gaining back "lost significance". Equally astonishing is how the Prime-Minister-Select disparages the accomplishment and record of democrats such as Aadan Cadde, as a derivative of colonial prejudice. It is mind-boggling, to say the least. Before I'd read his thesis, like most Somalis, I'd taken a liking to Farmaajo, whose persona I had seen as positive. I now view him as a biased adherent of the old Siyaadist half truths. But then again, he is probably miles better than the parliamentarian gangsters holding our nation hostage in Mogadishu. Qofba qof buu dhaamaa.

Alloow Alle!
Good points. What does this say about Sharif's selection? We have a president who is politcal novice and a PM to be who is oblivious to the strugle against Barre regime who more than anyone else caused the demise of the Somali nation state.

Farmajo seems to hold the same biased views as Faisal Roble and their knowledge of Somali history and governance is quite very limited. Was it too much of Barre's political influence? Farmajo however demonstrates in his thesis nationalist sentiments and pride that the general public holds.

It's important to note the first Government in Italian Somaliland' was formed on May 7, 1956 by the prime minister-designate Abdullahi Isse (RIP). The clan composition of his 6-member cabinet reveals the first application of nepotism and cronyism. The performance of the responsibilities tasked with his government was not that impressive even though the UN Trusteeship committee decided to accelerate the date of our independence.

In the north, the Somalization of higher positions had started a little late . The distinction of the first high commissioner in "Somaliland" and then governor of Las Anod and Berbera went to Imaan Dhorre, (son in law of Sultan Mohamed Ali). The USP which was subsequently formed by Sultan Mohamud as chairman in Las Anod was also very intrumental for the merger of the two regions and the Somalization of higher positions, held previously by British Officers.

After the merger, there were two major camps that fiercely contended for the premiership. And the selection of the PM was based on the same power-sharing formula we use today, albeit in different version, between the major clan-families. At one time, Egal and Abdullahi Isse camp lobbied for the selection of Qablan (A highly educated Southern ***** politican) for the president of National Assembly to forestall the chances of Abdirashid securing the premier post. The Adan-Abdirashid camp however prevailed over Qablan who declined to run for the post. Adan-Abdirashid outmanouvered the other camp by having Abdullahi Jama Ghalib (cousin of Egal) get elected for the Speaker. Neither Abdullahi Isse nor Egal could become the PM.

No alarming commentary from Farmaajo in the small posted text I read.

All the man is, is "Fiqi reerkiisa kama janotago", which sadly most Somalis are, so he is no different than the rest of us.

Gabbal laftiisa soo isaga halkaa lataagan Hiiraale is my hero and so is Naasir's saviour Atam, and the SLanders in SOL pay their respect and allegiance to warlord Siilaanyo.

Cut a slack and give the man a break, he's no worse than the 550 MP's you have in Mogadishu, and he should not be opposed purely because of his views in the thesis.

^It is nothing, although the thesis are more like the thesis of that Arab student which both America and UK used to justify their war against Iraq, remember Tony Blair's dosseir :D , full of bias and onesided but Farmaajo's was nothing too controvertial, at least compared to the nature of Somali politics.

The only crazy comment he made about your uncles in Mogadishu I heard, a funny comment that was :D

Qandali, that's the factual record. N what's ur obsession with Attam.

Duke and S@mali, If I may correct you guys, the SYL leaders had never been pro-Italian. It was during the British Military Administration of all Somali Territory that the League was formed with British support. The SYL leaders saw the British as their saviors. They later faught hard against the Italian AFIS for its fascist policies. The Italian settlers also created big obstacles on the road to political independence. However, Adan Abdulle and Abdullahi Isse later took a moderate stance against the Italian-administered trusteeship, creating a split within the SYL leadership. Haji Mohamed led the other SYL group.

Well, if only the likes you could see the 1969-91 military regime war far worse when it came to corruption, nepotism and violence than the civilian rule it replaced.

For Farmaajo to try to portray Afweyne - a man who was a gun-bearing ascari for the colonising Italian Fascists - as an anti-imperialist hero is just laughable. Whatever next...

did you even read the thesis.here is some of what he said about Siyaad and Kacaankii.

"The U.S. looked the other way because of the Cold War. It deliberately failed to scrutinize the Siad Barre government's mismanagement of foreign aid and his human rights offenses. He was ruthless and surrounded himself with incompetent individuals whom he selected not so much for their qualifications as their loyalty to him and their tribes. In the mid 80s, Siad Barre was victim of a life-threatening car accident.80 He suffered several broken bones and there was no emergency room in country that could provide him enough oxygen. He was forced to fly to Saudi Arabia for his medical care. Somali corruption was epidemic to the point where every government-owned, including hospitals, was no longer accountable and functioned entity per se. People lost faith in a government that did not appear terribly concerned with providing for them. The national army and police forces failed their responsibility to protect its citizens from widespread crime that often worked in broad daylight. The economy went sour amidst uncontrollable inflation and worthless salaries.81 The government's solution exacerbated the problem: it kept printing more notes which further decreased the value of Somali currency. People could hardly afford their day to day needs; many lost all their savings to the inflation. In late 80s, the economy was terrible, security was neglected and tribalism was surging. Somalis were returning to the old way of living; the new way was not working. The tribe"

people should read the whole paper.

^Good points. Some SOLers just like to react this way for no apparent reason. Farmaajo clearly mentioned what kind of ruthless dictator Siyad Bare was in this book.

The truth is that these guys criticizing Farmaajo have been very selective in their pick-and-choose approach. Their eyes only see the news they looking for. An insult to their intelligence indeed!

PM Farmaajo knows that somali affairs require a great deal of patience. At least Sharif Sakiin is showing the people his evilness.... All will be good!
