Jacaylbaro Posted May 21, 2008 The European Commission expresses its shock and outrage at the murder of the Somali education worker AHMED BARIO on Saturday 17 May 2008. The European Commission condemns this senseless act, which has robbed Kismayo of a leader in the fight against poverty. AHMED BARIO had been managing the operations of the Promotion of Employment Through Training (PETT) project in Kismayo. This callous murder has deprived the youth of the region of a dedicated and diligent colleague in the campaign to help the most disadvantaged young women and men to acquire education and skills and support their access to productive employment. The European Commission extends its most sincere condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues and friends of AHMED BARIO. We also express our deepest sympathy to his employer, Horn Relief and their PETT consortium partners Diakonia, Gotenburg Initiative and International Aid Services. The Commission commends the professionalism and dedication of the Consortium partners, all of whom will keenly feel this tragic loss.
