Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdillahi Duale thanked today, the South African team for the success of the heart operation of Somaliland Interior Minister Abdillahi Ismail Cirro at the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa.

 

The Foreign Minister commended Dr. Nalin Patel, acclaimed heart Cardiologist, for his speedy surgery intervention of the Somaliland Interior Minister, despite an intensive schedule.

 

Says Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdillahi Duale: "On our own, we would not have been able to face this enormous challenge of getting the Somaliland Interior Minister a speedy heart operation. The joint Ethiopian and South African effort has certainly made a difference in the life of Somaliland Interior Minister Abdillahi Ismail Cirro, his immediate family, Somaliland and the Horn of Africa."

 

“Angioplasty operation and the implanting of a stent in the heart’s artery, requires highly specialised expertise. I wish to commend the medical team that stabalised the Minister in Addis Ababa and for undertaking the heart surgery in Johannesburg at very short notice. Thus, giving the Minister, his family, a most precious gift on the occasion of the festival of Eid, a smile.”

 

“The experience gained as a result of this surgery will greatly enrich Somaliland-Ethiopian-South African friendship and solidarity and contribute towards a better Horn of Africa.”

 

The national Ethiopian and South African systems, made available its facilitation for the operation, in line with its international obligations to facilitate emergency humanitarian medical treatment, where possible.

 

According to the latest report from the Cardiologist, the Minister’s condition is good and the final result has good blood flow in the heart. The Minister has arrived safely in Addis Ababa and plans to return to Hargeisa on Saturday 13 October 2007.
