An Ethiopian column supported by tanks and artillery drove southeast from Ferfer and engaged Islamic Courts forces in Elgal in the mountainous northwestern outskirts of Beledweyn. The Ethiopian force pounded Islamist positions heavily with Ballistic Missiles.[208] Later in the day the Ethiopian force advanced to Jandkundisho, a suburb of Beledweyn, and continued to pound the hills surrounding Beledweyn.[209] On July 24, Ethiopian troops finally renewed their fight for the town. Seven civilians were killed and 12 others were wounded after artillery shells and bullets hit residential areas in Beledweyne. At least 16 civilians were killed by the end of the first day of fighting[210][211][212] The next day fighting continued in Beledweyne, as Islamist rebels sought to push out Ethiopian troops who had retaken control of the town the day before. At least 12 people were killed, including three civilians who died when an artillery shell hit their home in the western side of Beledweyne. "Today's battle was very intense…I saw 9 dead bodies, including three Ethiopian soldiers and four rebels," one witness told. I was working on some linear regression models for work.. and just out of curiosity (alright it was.. boredom) .. just to see what the relationship looks like between ethio/stooge deaths and civilians ... I plugged in the values from the table you gave in the link .. where row 1 = january , row 2= febraury .... a = ethio + 'somali soldier' , and b = somali civilians. so, in january we had: 14 xabashi + 20 stooges to give a = 34 b= 95 civilians although the slope is not as steep as i thought it would be .. it is still depressing Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
