U.S Rep. Donald Payne Somaliland response is unacceptable.

Thankful

Kashafa,

You are letting history repeat itself kind sir! The more the forces you support spread out the weaker you become. Baby steps!! I thought the speed in which the ICU was defeated would atleast of humbled you. They were on the verge of spreading to unheard of distances and with in days were crushed. Losing the capital and it's leaders fleeing never to return until Ethiopia was long gone. The major area's of the capital Aiport, Sea Port, Presidential Palace, still out of your hands. Don't make the same mistake again!!! The suicide bombings and dressing as civilians tactics will turn against you! Eritrea doesn't have your best interests.

Big miscalculation by the Admin. SL had a platform to present it's case to the US in WASHINGTON and it decided to be a wailing child instead.

I want to know Ngonge's take on this.

I want to know Ngonge's take on this.

It's politics, saaxib. It was and has always been the correct thing to do. Somaliland cannot claim to have seceded on the one hand and go take part in a meeting concerning the troubles in Somalia on another. Not forgetting that this is election season and the wretched Kulmiye would have taken advantage of any action by the SL admin that shows it to be cosying up to greater Somalia.

In refusing to attend the meeting and in getting the 'telling off' that they got, they made themselves stand out. Now the game of politics shall begin. I mean, come now Norf. You do realise that this is not the end of the matter and that SL has people lobbying on its behalf in the American corridors of power.

In the longer run, I believe (from a purely political viewpoint) that this was the best thing SL could have done under the circumstances. The argument has always been that we are separate, self-sufficient and not involved in Somali affairs and this recent action of SL only goes to confirm to Americans (and whoever else that would listen) that the case remains so.

Will America shut us out? Have we lost any ground by this action? No. I don't believe that to be the case. If anything, it raised the stakes and informed those members of congress - in that not so important meeting that Horn was belittling a few days ago and is now trying to make sound like the do or die meeting of the century – that SL has a cause, a serious resolve and a destiny that it refuses to surrender no matter who is on the opposite side.

Ps

Was this not the America that had no problem with SL but chose to let the AU decide on its fate? It is not as if they don't know what the score is, saaxib. The people laughing here are laughing too soon. Duushay ban ku idhi, duushay.

ps

You chose the wrong time to jump ship.

Ngonge,

SL rarely gets the opportunity to make their case in front of the US in Washington with the UN rep present. Regardless of their uncomfort with being thrown into the same mix with PL and Somalia, if SL is realistic about recognition it should surely embrace such a platform. A platform it has been deprived of for quite a while.

Now it will go back relying on the odd article and the odd public visit.

^^ Who says SL rarely gets the chance? Did not Ms Frazer visit H town? Did not the SL delegation meet up with members of the State department not long ago? You are mistaken SL for Puntland, saaxib.

If this was the only ever opportunity I would see your point and agree with it. But, in this case, I think the SL admin were right. They have an election to fight in a few months time. The opposition have shamelessly been accusing them of befriending Somalia and other similar nonsense (I am assuming you have been reading Somaliland.org, etc). Now try and weigh the importance of this hearing when compared to losing votes because you attended a hearing that would hardly (or at best, may) add anything to SL's cause.

ps

Like I said, this is not the end of the matter. Wait and see.

Ngonge, when you out it like that then I have to agree.

Oody, bal waran saxib. Hope all is well. At least we got some sort of discussion on the issue.

Oodweyne,

What is this crab that our chap Oodweyne is calling “inconvenient truth”? Is the guy really serious or was this childish story concocted in one of the Mafrash’s in England? And what does he mean when he uses the word “WE”? Since when has he become party to this politically disastrous decision of ina Dhoola Yare? Does he really understand what is involved in a congressional hearing?

The fact remains that Somaliland had nothing, absolutely nothing to loose, but had plenty to gain by attending that hearing. It was a major gaffe any way you measure it. By the way Ted Dagne is not an assistant or a member of the staff of Congressman Payne, but is a specialist in African affairs of the congressional research service. The CRS for your information is a separate branch of the library of congress that was established over 90 years ago. It is a nonpartisan government think tank that has the sole purpose of providing support for the legislature, by doing policy research and analysis. It is therefore beyond me why you are attacking the credibility of Dr. Dagne? All he did was as others like Dr. Pham provide testimony to the committee.

Finally the last time I checked Gaashaamo Bari was in Western Somalia which happens to be where Mr. Oodweyne is actually from. So if Dr. Dagne is married to a Western Somali, then he is a spouse of one of his compatriots who deserves his respect.

Mr. Oodweyne,

First, without any further reservations I thank you for the warm welcome and for the improper, entertaining description about me. Secondly, one wonders that you never get tired of not smelling the coffee. No matter how hard your quest of “SL’s” recognition hits dead ends like the quake mire it is in now. Thirdly, bad or good I’ve to admit the liberation of Las-Anod by Gallant Dervishes is long overdue, its citizens have to yet remove themselves from the shackles of your militias. With that said; there are more national and regional pressing issues that have taken precedence, just sit tight and be patient! I assure you sooner/later and in one way or another you will collect your dividend.

^You are living in suspended reality, but you keep this up, you might just get what you are asking for, of course you will be sitting somewhere else other than where it's actually happening shooting your mouth. That said, your obession with certain folks is really amazing, what's worse you wanted to join your kooky world.

^I will personally buy you the ticket so you could live your delusions in whatever battle field you conjure up in your mind. It must be easy to waste the 20 somethings who grew with the idea with Somaliland and suck resources from the diasporo.

Anyhow Duqa, you are small dreamer who settled for bread crumbs so he could enjoy a hegemony in your little corner of Somalia rather than walk toe to toe with the rest of Maryooley or claim the Somalia inhereted from "defeated lot".

For your sake, I hope you are part of the Habar that actually run things in Hargeisa so we don't have listen to the same story though about different "defeated lot".

In meantime, be careful for what you wish and you might find Godane chasing you out of town and he's no small dreamer, but I get the feeling you will be singing his praises shall he be blessed to inherit the Somali peninsula.
