Gabbal Posted June 26, 2009 Scathing critique from the one man who is probably the most interested in Somalia in the U.S House of Representative and organized the hearings publicized in this form. A completely different interpretation then the one given by the Somaliland Foreign Minister and the various Somaliland news articles posted the last couple days. This is the complete webcast but the remarks heftily criticizing Somaliland starts at 52:40 at the second half of the panel involving the Puntland president, TFG representatives, and the AU and UN special representatives to Somalia. Che -Guevara Posted June 26, 2009 Donald is irrelevent, we shall have direct meeting with Hilary and DOD to address the diplomatic and security issues in the horn. While we are at it, we will address the joint session of the congress.
Xaaji Xunjuf Posted June 26, 2009 Gabbal that so called meeting was irrelevant to Somaliland and its government there was no point of the Somaliland foreign minister of going there because they where talking about terrorism sharifs government and how it needs to be saved from alshabab and puntland piracy neither of that concerns us

Gabbal Posted June 26, 2009 Originally posted by Che -Guevara: Donald is irrelevent, The hearing has the possibility of being irrelavent but not Payne. The man is the chairman of the House sub-committee on Africa. He personally wields a heavy gavel with respect to American policy on Africa. Xaaji- "Somaliland response is unacceptable" was a response to Somaliland refusing to sit on this hearing and instead asking for a "separate hearing", something both Oodweyne on this forum and the Somaliland Foreign Minister on the BBC have said the U.S House accepted. According to the chairman of the Africa sub-committee "that response is unacceptable" and makes him "wonder about Somaliland's commitment to peace in the region". RedSea Posted June 26, 2009 ^Somaliland's commitment to peace in the Horn has been well noted. Donald Payne should know if he has done his homework right.
General Duke Posted June 26, 2009 Gabbal: The secessionists failed, they thought by complaining they would get something. The TFG & Puntland gave its case. Also note the TFG recived weapons and assitance from Washington. There is change in the air and our brotthers in Hargaysa just dont get it.
AfricaOwn Posted June 26, 2009 Dr. Pham Somaliland's most important lobbyist lol was there in person, so that's enough.
General Duke Posted June 26, 2009 ^^^Living in cloud cucko land I guess. A scathing attack by the US on the secessionists, "this is about the Somali people regardless of the region they come from".
AfricaOwn Posted June 26, 2009 Would have been a sad day to see SL Foreign Minister sitting across that leader from puntland.
Jacaylbaro Posted June 26, 2009 Good Mr. Payne that you address Somaliland as a state ...... Sure it is unacceptable but that is what the government and its people chose. We will meet you sometime in July .... IA

Sophist Posted June 26, 2009 " if they want to be isolated, they can be assured that I will do all I can to isolate them... and evidently that they dont need or want the support of US... and will support SOmalia and Puntland". Chairman Pyne! That is a not what Somaliland thought would be the result of ciyaalnimada ey kudhaqmeen! This guy seems to have taken their absence personally! walee waa la idiin digey! S. Che -Guevara Posted June 27, 2009 Gabbal...I was being sarcastic. You are right, you surely don't wanna snub any chairman who alot issues pertinent to Somalia are defer to. This was ill advised.

Pham is a neocon and has no friends in the Democratic corridors of power. The man was one of McCain's junior foreign policy advisers in the presidential campaign. It is only because of his scholarly devotion to the Horn of African that he still gets some respect in this field, not because of any ability to move a finger in the new era of American politics.
