Cowke Posted October 16, 2009 1 thing that has to be on our agenda, especially in bossaso is to sort out those damn electric wires being tied around poles and stuff. 1. It's safety concern.2. It's poor urban designing. This issue affects all somalia unfortunately, however we need to better ourselves and get on top of it. The best solution is when the oil production begins, to use that revenue into an electricity grid in puntland. Bossaso can be the provider and a grid map to all the major cities of every region. Billion dollar infrastructure, and this is where the oil money is critical.
Xudeedi Posted October 16, 2009 Bosaso is indeed a significant trading center that has a great pottential. The quantity of consumers alongside buying power signals the need to develop financial institutions. A commercial bank, lending institution, or even an investment firm that attracts foreign investors could have a great success. Maasha Alaah

Xudeedi, La-riba Micro-finance scheme would have helped many small businesses and farmers. It's all about the Hawala system, livestock and fishery as the main source of hard currency earnings. Businesses and families loan each other based on trust and of potential mutual benefits but there is no such institution. Perhaps Dahabshiil and others tranforming into a major banks might help. Raamsade Posted October 17, 2009 Wealth ultimately comes from productivity gains and innovation not consumption. Remittance fueled consumption economy is not gonna get you anywhere. You're merely transferring wealth from more affluent Somalis in the diaspora to less well-off Somalis in Somalia. Giving with one hand, taking it away with the other. We are already seeing the rise of mini industries throughout Somalia. Thanks Duke.
