Mogadishu Journalists Deserve Assistance, Not Expulsion

Recommended Posts

EDITORIAL

This week, Somaliland’s Police Chief, Muhammad Saqadhi Dubbad, informed 23 journalists who fled the carnage in Mogadishu and who now reside in Hargeysa to leave the country within 24 hours. The police chief gave three reasons for the government’s decision: (a) the journalists engaged in activities that have endangered Somaliland’s security; (b) the journalists engaged in activities that could harm relations with neighboring countries, specifically Ethiopia; © the journalists have published writings harmful to Somaliland. These are serious charges indeed, but there are several problems here. One, the government has not provided any evidence. Two, if the journalists committed all those crimes why weren’t they tried and made to account for their alleged crimes instead of being expelled?

Since the government has not provided convincing evidence to back its case, we can only judge by what we know, and what we know is that the journalists had met with representatives of Amnesty International, and it is probably this meeting that set of f the government’s alarm.

The Somaliland Times has consistently advocated that Somaliland’s government be vigilant against security threats from those who want to destabilize the country. But based on available information, we think, in this case, the government has overreacted. Therefore, we request our government to reconsider its expulsion order on humanitarian grounds, and to allow the journalists to stay in Somaliland, the same way it has allowed so many other refugees.

As per the constitution of Somali Republic and according to the international law, forget humanitarian laws, the internally displaced Somali journalists that being humiliated and bullied in Hargeisa have every right to stay put, and no body can legally remove them from where they are now.

The SNM gangs in Hargeisa are bound to be stuck in between the rock and the hard place (labo kuu daran mid dooro). They cannot retract their earlier decision of ordering the journalists within 5 days to remove themselves from the northwest region because it will shed more light for the public in Hargeisa on the impracticality of what the separatists want albeit a known fact. On the other hand, if they forcefully remove Somali nationals from certain geographical area of their country, the Amnesty Human Right Organization has told them as per the SNM gang’s spokesman on BBC that the world community will not tolerate the violation of constitutional rights of certain group of citizens by another group of citizens.

Now, the testosterone of the gang members is boiling. The five days are over. It is the right time to challenge the international community. And as per their delusional mentality and according to their opinion leaders headed by Mr. Ood, President George and First Lady Laura Bush do not go to bed unless they go over the diplomatic strategies and military tactics to convince the world that the Somali Republic should be dismembered and the tribal enclave of the gang has be recognized as sovereignty and a full members of UN. ;)

Why does it always have to come down to the Riyaale Admin? Why don't you blame the whole Somaliland Policing? Why don't you blame Somaliland Supreme Courts for the Qaran arrests? You guys are really making this seem like Riyaale controls everything.

Mr.Oodley, I know you will never get tired reading my wisdom and practicality of my philosophies. Dee, enjoy them for free. But one thing your delusional self has to keep in mind. This voice will never get tired showing the impracticality of your failed motives to the world at large even if President Bush lets you into his bedroom (I do not know how Laura Bush will react) though.... ;)

^^^ Nayruus were not the Journalists running for their life from the TFG in the south huh, so please stop this screaming of the top of your lung on this issue. Both the public and parliment of somaliland are against this actions, So for the love of God stop implying that all somalilanders are for this. Second look in the mirror old boy and ask yourself why they left the capital and picked of all places somaliland to go to for safety, hopefully by then you will truely understand the facts on the ground and not imput your feelings as facts.

^^^^I wish you could leave the word Somali alone and confine yourself as “Mr. Thinker”.

Mr. Thinker facts and analysis are two different things. The fact is the SNM gang and the related entities were in agreement to obey Mr. Mele Zewani`s order relayed by his grand agent in Hargeisa to expel these poor Somali journalists.

Another fact is that Amnesty International has told the SNM gang in their face that these Somalis are in their country and nobody can legally remove them from any Somali soil spot.

You can verify these facts with BBC Somali.

Now the gang and their drum beaters are giving the story a different outlook to make it humanitarian.

It is all about the recognition. Get it and then you can expel whoever you want by creating your own brand new race to base your discrimination of who is in and who is out.

Is that hard for you to comprehend, Mr. Thinker?
