RedSea Posted February 2, 2007 source MOGADISHU, Somalia Hundreds of protesters in Somalia are vowing to keep foreign troops from coming into their country. This after the African Union said peacekeepers from Uganda and Nigeria are ready to be deployed in Somalia and will be airlifted as soon as possible. The supporters of Somalia's ousted Islamic courts council demonstrated in northern Mogadishu today, chanting anti-government slogans and burning tires. Ethiopia's military intervention on behalf of the U-N-backed Somali government in December proved crucial in routing militias loyal to the courts council. The protesters are calling for the return of the Islamic movement, which was credited with restoring some order in the violent nation. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
