UIC’s should talk to the TFG

They are wrong in refusing to talk to TFG. They got nothing to lose by accepting to attend the peace process sponsored by Arab League and hosted by Sudan – entities that are friendly to UIC and sympathetic to their cause.

 

Talking to your nemesis is always beneficial. You see sometimes opposing parties settle their differences without going to full blown war. Col. Aways is a bit adventurous and he is eager to kick Inna Yussuf’s behind it seems. So is Inna Yussuf. The two have a personal score to settle. Perhaps someone can arrange a boxing match between the two colonels – a duel if you will. However the war they have in mind is not a war we can afford to entertain.

 

The courts have many enemies. Their enemies are trying their best to depict them as unreasonably violent and “Taliban-like†bunch of terrorists. By refusing to sit down with the other side in order to find a way out of this looming civil war, they are handing the TFG a rare opportunity to secure the military support from reluctant and weary interested countries.

 

The TFG may get that support from some quarters anyway but if the UIC show restraint and attend each and every table that hosts a peace conference for this troubled nation they will come across as a non-violent and peaceful movement that wants to bring back normalcy to anarchic south. Moreover their cooperation in that venue will empower their sympathizers like the Arab League.

 

It is opportune time for the UIC to wise up and deny the TFG and their Ethios backers the opportunity to stay put in a military footing within Somali proper. If there is no chance for peace and if the TFG is a weak entity that cannot withstand the might of the courts then one should expect the old man to defend his turf and do it with the backing of the Ethios.

 

You see if and when the two sit down and try to iron out their differences, Ethiopia will be hard pressed to remain inside the country. The main thrust of their argument (in private conversation with EU, US, Arab League, IGAD) is that the courts are coming and they are coming with hardened and battle-bruised fighters (some are Ethiopian origin) who are separatists that want to disturb the delicately balanced ethnic diversity of Ethiopia. Arab League, in the absence of political negotiations and peace process, will be reduced to by-standards for they cannot encourage or defend partisan group that wants to wage proxy war for Eritrea. Perceptions are important in this age and time.

 

Bargain hard, stick to your principles, and make a stand but for Allah’s sake spare us from unnecessary civil war. Accept to negotiate with the devil and don’t you take the bait for Ethiopia has a lot of support from the powers that be this time around.

^How wise is it to negotiate with traitors who batrey their public by brining a known vicious enemy against our society and religion? I am sure, baashiyow, you don't mean the despeciable ethiopians to envade our country. But your advocacy for that aging traitor is more than questionable!

 

I support an all out assault against the enemy who is currently envading our country with the intention of humiliating our religion and women. We will fight if we are the good descedents of Sayid Max'ed Cabdulle Xasan and Axmed Gurey.

What have the Sayid and Gurey exactly achieved in their campaigns against the Xabashi?

 

We need people who could reconcile the Somalis, not just beat the drums of the war.

^Xabashi wouldn't eat raw meats if it wasn't Axmed Gurey who kept them hide their cooking fires at night from his fearful armies.

 

Check the history, saaxiibkeey, it obviously details the dreadful days of Christian ethiopia when our great-grand-parents drove them from all corners in the horn of Africa.

 

Peace in the presence of a known enemy in our midst is nothing but a war disguised in peace-clothes.

 

We'll choose the fight and drive first the enemy out of our country, and then we can talk about peace and internal political negotiations with any Somalis. But let's first deal with our common enemy.

Brother our nation is divided, the enemy is strong, and the powers that be are against Somalia ruled by Islamic oriented brothers. We are up against powerful coalition that's itching to give the TFG all the material aid it needs to get the job done. They are also trying to give the Ethios a diplomatic cover.

 

One way of dealing with this coalition is as you said go to all out war against TFG and its Ethios allies. In a time of war, the warring factions need military logistics. That means UIC have to get its armament supply from Eritrea. TFG has Ethiopia. The theatre of war is on Somali soil. This proxy war will have devastating consequences on vital regions in the South. Last time this kind of conflict raged in that region was back in the 90s. about quarter million died of starvation. That's not a desirable outcome for the residents of that area.

 

Another approach is to complicate the enemy's game and use their plan against them. And that is get on the same page with the UN, AU, and Arab League by attending the peace process.

 

You see UIC can make a tangible progress on the issue of Ethiopian presence at the table. It can raise the bar and ask the UN, AU, IGAD, Arab League to get Ethiopians out of Somali soil. It can also ask these regional and international bodies to go down there and verify thier allegations. I can assure you that Ethiopia's alleged presence inside Somalia is an issue taken very seriously by some Arab countries. Once they roll that ball they will gladly pick it up and run with it for touchdown score.

 

By doing that you can put Ethiopia on the hot seat and you have an advocate that will do your bidding in these circles: Arabs. They can be a counterweight sometimes especially in the horn of Africa region. Egypt can educate US on this matter but it will need UICs to at least show some flexiblity on the peace process issue.

 

Calm down yaa Alle-u-Baahane. It easy for you to beat the drum of war from Boston alla armchair general . It ain't pretty sxb. I would love to get the UIC off the international radar.

Alla-Ubaahne....I take little comfort in history considering where we are today.Obliteration of the Ethios in the Somali soil is very enticing on the surface, but all we know things are more complicated than that. The court's leadership should ready themselves for eventual assualt, but as for now , they should engage the traitors diplomatically. No one should rush into war without considering the consequences of war.

 

Baashi....The UN envoy actually confirmed the Ethiopian presenceweb page in Somalia though he added their numbers were greatly exaggerated.

I think it took courage to pull off of the Khartoum. Using that talks to highlight the Habash interference was also an excellent political manouvering. We support them.

The courts should work INTENTIONALLY for peace. In that way they will not only win the hearts and minds of the somali people but they will also erode incentives for the warmongers.

 

Frankly I think they know that. May be they want to balance the scales of the military power and then come at the table- self confident. Dangerous game though you may say!

Good Baashi is right. Courts need to talk to anyone who's interested talking, even if it's the Ethiopians. To boycott the talks now is political reactionary that yields nothing for them.
