N.O.R.F Posted May 27, 2007 Somalia: Bomb blast kills two in Mogadishu overnight Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu 24, May.07 ( Sh.M.Network) At least one person was killed and five were wounded after a huge bomb blast tore apart Heliwaa police station north east of Somali Capital. Residents said the Somali police opened random gunfire following the blast. Witnesses told Shabelle Thursday that the bodies of two civilians baring gunshots were found near the area where the explosion occurred while three of the five wounded has been reported in critical condition. A police officer who witnessed the incident told Shabelle, on the condition of anonymity, that unidentified gunmen targeted the police station with a bomb. “The police had to flee and fired shots in defence,” he said. 20 people have so far been arrested as suspects after the police embarked on house to house search in the area. Since the Ethiopian backed interim government seized control of Islamic insurgents’ strongholds in north of the capital, series of bomb explosions on Somali officials and soldiers have been carried out by what the government called remnants of Islamists.
