Liibaan Posted November 13, 2010 New Somalia Prime Minister Unveils Smaller Cabinet, Cutting 21 'Bloated' Positions, Gov't Says By The Associated Press NAIROBI, Kenya — Somalia's prime minister has unveiled a new, slimmed-down Cabinet of 18 ministers, a big drop from the 39 ministers the former prime minister had. Prime Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed named the new Cabinet Friday. Abdullahi — a Somali-American who has taught at a community college in New York state — was named prime minister last month. Abdullahi says the Somali people and the international community were waiting for a credible and competent Cabinet. Only two ministers from the previous administration remain. Somalia has not had an effective government since 1991. The internationally backed Mogadishu government has not made much progress to end violence in the country.
