Its better for me that you remain stateless, but with or without a state i know somali's will never amount to much politically or as a nation.

As for khat, saxib my uncle mr. 571 makes more money from chat in bosaso then he does in hargaisa.

Its strange that the northwesterners are happier about the collapse of the old government than Puntlanders despite the fact that Puntland's towns and cities gained more as the northwestern cities turned into dust.

Berbera turned into a de facto Ethiopian colony and rusted away into oblivion, today its a ghost town - and it was once one of the most legendary port towns of East Africa. The only place that saw progress was Hargeisa and to a limited extent Burco. The rest of northwestern region has utterly turned to crap. Sheikh, once a great school town is now empty except for the school, Borama would've met the same fate if not for its resilient community, and forget about Ceerigaabo, it went from one of the most famed towns of northwestern Somalia into a forgotten frontier town.

People who lost so much can't pretend to have gained anything. Keep smiling because the truth is ugly.

I haven't even gotten started on drug abuse and HIV (which, by the way, is by far the highest in Somalia) which has exploded since Siad Barre left.

Indicators of Somali welfare remain low in absolute terms, but compared to their status

under government show a marked advance. Under statelessness life expectancy in Somalia has grown, access to health facilities has increased, infant mortality has dropped, civil liberties have expanded, and extreme poverty (less than $1 PPP/day) has plummeted.

This is a nice read?? It is complete lies and misinformation! You know full well that what he states right here is untrue!

This is probably the dumbest and most unprofessional article I have ever read. Who is this guy to tell us we are better off? Thanks for the pat on the head Peter!

So basically because he feels that the previous regime failed, Somalia is better now? How many regimes has there been that committed atrocities to it's population? The list is long! also did any of these countries give up on finding an alternative government? He wants Somalia to be the only country to not have a government.

Somalia is not better off!! The fact that millions of it's Diaspora fled is proof! The fact that the most peaceful area's are also the places that drug dealing is one of the biggest businesses is proof.

JB, I know you like to post in quantity and not quality. But be prepared for people to give their opinion on it.

The article was made for an audience that was not familiar with Somalia, who will believe his misinformation. Anyone with familiarity knows that the authors claims that since the collapse of Somalia's government in 1991 "access to health facilities, infant mortality has dropped, civil liberties have expanded, and extreme poverty (less than $1 PPP/day) has plummeted." - Are untrue. Even if you were to say that some cities have improved or regions, you know for the vast majority things are not better!

This guy is lying!

Than again if you find that a nice read, so be it!

^^ Aqiyaar ma aqrisey qoraalka horta?

JB ma rabin in halkan laga aqriyo the following:

The leader of the group, (who I refuse to name: you never know who might be reading this small-time politics blog) answered a few questions for Political Promise about his protest. It was the Gabooye People of Somaliland who feel this torture and ethnic cleansing on a daily basis, funded by aid given to Somalia by the UK.

What are you doing here?

“It is a demonstration to raise awareness for the continual suffering of Somaliland, and the minority tribes in Somalia. There is continued rape, kidnap, murder and all sorts of torture.

To be quite frank, this is getting out of hand. The last straw was two women who were kidnapped and raped by members of the Military. They have suffered serious injuries, and the government keeps on covering up this issue. The government is run by one family, if you are a Jew, if you are from a minority, they run you over. And this is what we are trying to highlight today. We are asking the British government to stand up and say, this is wrong. Parliament has a role in protecting the world’s citizens.”

So this is the first time you have campaigned, have you had any success?

“We have had a lot of success, the response has been good. A number of MPs came down and other representatives of Government. We have also handed in a thousand-page petition, trying to raise awareness and get these criminals brought to justice. This is a tribal issue, they do not allow inter-marriage, we are not
allowed to eat with these people, completely isolated from society with no representation in government at all
.

Right now as I am talking to you, there have been three men who have been kidnapped, arrested by the police for speaking out.”

Do you visit the country regularly?

“The situation is so tense at the moment, that people like me trying to raise awareness of this issue would not be safe. No, and I wouldn’t plan on going.”

What can the British government do?

“The main donor of aid to the regime is the UK. Somalia are trying hard to become a developed country, a democracy, recognised internationally. Turkey, for example, have been trying to enter the EU for years, yet have not been able to because of human rights abuses of the past. If Somalia wants international recognition as an independent country, it should also treat it’s people with human rights.

At present, the President’s uncle is the foreign officer, a cousin is the Security minister, an uncle who is deputy President and it’s a family that takes care of each other. So there is little chance to get any justice on our own in Somaliland.”
:(

Foreign aid is abetting the criminal activity in this country. Development is not achieved, only tyranny. These people need our support.

Their website -www.gabooye.org has been
removed
, but the Gabooye Minority Organisation is strong and determined. Let’s hope our government can intervene. For a start, they can stop funding these criminals in the form of direct aid: which is spent on oppressing rather than developing the regional economy and alleviating poverty.

Maryan Mursal ayaa xataa ku jirtey dadka demo sameynayey.

allowed to eat with these people, completely isolated from society with no representation in government at all .

This is precisely why the secessionists cannot get a single country in the world to recognize them. They base their whole claim on the alleged persecution they suffered and then they make a supposed government dominated by one group. Where all the opposition parties are lead by one side.

This is why people like JB and other secessionists are ignoring this protest that took place because they know it is the truth.

They have no clue how devastating this kind of news is to their cause, countries will definitely not even thinking of even hearing about NW Somaia dreams when they know that a groups is claiming the regime there is oppressing people.
