Much has been made about the fate of the President Abdullahi Yusuf tied to that of the Puntland state.

 

Puntland should stay as it is, a Somali state seeking a better Somalia. It might seek a policy of isolationism for a period of time and take a defensive posture when it comes to the south but it should not declare itself independent of the Somali republic.

Puntland will definitely secede (depending on the outcome of Abdullahi Yusuf), it's not a question of if, but when. We will have no relations with the new government. Who will more then likely be led by Nur Cade or Sheik Sharif. The annoucement will be made at the right time, sooner or later.

 

I am not sure if they will seek independance, because it will never come. But they definitely want nothing to do with the south.
