Burn Notice Posted September 9, 2010 Somalia: Somaliland interior minister 'worried' about Galgala militants 8 Sep 8, 2010 - 2:56:45 PM A Cabinet minister in Somalia's separatist region of Somaliland has expressed his worries about a group of militants fighting against Puntland government, Radio Garowe reports. Dr. Mohamed Abdi Gabose, Somaliland's interior minister, told a press conference Tuesday in Hargeisa that the security situation in Somaliland is stable and that security forces are aware of all movements. Dr. Gabose was asked by Hargeisa journalists what the Somaliland government thinks of the Galgala militants allied to Al Shabaab, who are led by a man named Mohamed Said Atom. "They [Galgala militants] are a threat to Somaliland if they are defeated by Puntland or not," Somaliland Interior Minister Dr. Gabose responded to the reporter's question. He explained that if the Galgala militants are not defeated, they are a serious threat to Somaliland security "because they are an armed force," adding: "If they are defeated, their remnants can commit acts of terrorism inside Somaliland." Dr. Gabose stated that Somaliland's administration "does not have a clear strategy" to face off the Galgala militants but indicated that the administration was "very worried" about developments in Golis mountain range that connect Somaliland and Puntland. Atom and the Galgala militants have hidden in the Golis mountain range and are being hunted down by Puntland troops, according to government officials in Puntland. Puntland troops have seized all three facilities used by the Galgala militants, who have pledged their allegiance to Al Shabaab. Puntland accuses the Galgala militants of assassinations and bombings inside Puntland and government troops have seized facilities including training camps. Separately, Somaliland's interior minister Dr. Gabose denied media reports that relations between Somaliland and Ethiopia have gotten worse since the June election of President Ahmed Silanyo in Somaliland. Somaliland, located in northwest Somalia, unilaterally declared independence in 1991 but has not been recognized internationally.
Thankful Posted September 9, 2010 Interesting, Atam is slowly becoming old news because he's a man that is in hiding form Puntlands forces. All his allies in the Diaspora failed to gain popular support by saying this was a bigger issue. NW Somalia is already claiming they are arresting Al Shabaab in Burco they need to start thinking where they are coming from. They need to start taking an active role and help rid our country of them.
Qandalawi Posted September 9, 2010 Now the Somaliland authorities are also calling Attom and his supporters terrorists... What would our Maakhir residents in SOL have to say about that?
NASSIR Posted September 9, 2010 Dr. Gabosse himself is accused of having links with the radicals in the South. So is it the pot calling the kettle black. Prior to joining the Kulmiye party, he desperately tried to form his own Islamist-leaning party (Qaran), which means Nation, on a pan-Somali and Islamist platform. He and his friend Cirro were put behind bars by the former governor for a quite sometime. Now he is back to prove the IC wrong or probably distract the international press from what he himself was accused of by a silly rhetoric against the people of Galgala just to mislead the world from legitimate concerns of his ulterior motives. It's clear as day light what his political intentions in the press release are. Use ctrl f and type "Kulmiye" to locate its links to Islamic Extremism... NGONGE Posted September 9, 2010 ^^ If this were Faroole he would be showboating by now and going on about "if SL does not defeat them, we reserve the right to go in and clear the area from all terrorists, etc". Dr G gave a diplomatic answer to a pressing question. It was all hot air to be honest. He neither said that he'll fight Atam nor did he say he didn't care. His only concern here (and rightly so) is that there is an armed group on the borders of SL who might (in future) pose a risk to the state. As for the fight between Atam and PL, he seems to be clear about SL's position, it is not our concern (as the words about Atam being defeated by PL or not show). The constitution doesn't allow the formation of a 4th party, and that's why the courts found him guilty.
Emperor Posted September 9, 2010 What is wrong with an Islamic party? I had one in mind, whwo will join? As if anything with the word Islam in it has become strange and alian or very unattractive.

General Duke Posted September 9, 2010 No one is against an Islamic party leaning or otherwise people don't like *********. Which is what Al Shabaab & their Agent Attam are. The fact that Gaboose a man who can not be called anti Islamic holds the same view with regards to agent Attam that Puntland holds is a good thing. No one wants an armed terror group in their region, let alone near Bossaso city one of the most important commercial outlets in all of Somalia.
Jacaylbaro Posted September 9, 2010 Radio Garowe reports That is not best way to make an ally ,,,,, they should send an official request which will be reviewed and approved by the two houses before the president signs for approval ,,,
Thankful Posted September 10, 2010 No one is asking for an ally, how can you ask for an ally when you are from the same country??This is warning that Atam is being pushed towards the NW of Somalia, already Burco is supposedly arresting Al Shabaab. So if the regional enclave wants to do something on the other end, it would be wise for their own security.
Jacaylbaro Posted September 10, 2010 Atam is being pushed towards the NW of Somalia Good that you unknowingly recognize the borders ,,

Thankful Posted September 10, 2010 You're so desperate Nassir you are now siding with the secessionists? I guess the people of Dhahar, Gagala and other area's refused to accept your claim it was over minerals; so you are looking for support anywhere? You were hoping the communities of this area would pick up arms and side against the Puntland government. Remember though the people know what Atam's voice sounds like and they heard him calling Al Shabaab his brothers. It's a fact, Atam had to leave these area's and is in hiding and Puntland Interior Minister Ilka Jiir led the mission to expel him.
