The clean up of bandits in Bossaso city and the carefully executed military operation against the Al Shabaab cell of Attam highlights that this fakeJihadi group cam be defeated quite easily and that Somali's should learn from Puntland.

Somalia: Puntland Security Forces Register Victory at the Galgala Frontier

Security forces from Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland launched fresh offensives against militants linked to Al Qaeda-inspired Al-Shabaab, leaving at least 18 people dead, officials and witnesses said.

 

Puntland Security Minister Yusuf Ahmed Qeyr said the raid in the mountainous region of Galgala between was success, adding that Puntland forces inflicted heavy casualties on the militia loyal to local insurgent leader Mohamed Said Atom, who is on a UN Security Council watch list.

 

‘We have attacked their bases and chase them away. Our forces are now in full control of the Galgala Mountains and the enemy suffered heavy casualties,” Qeyr told reporters on Sunday.

 

Puntland security forces commander told Garowe Online “The gang militias whether they came from southern, northern or Puntland regions made bases at Sugule, Bali-khadar and behind the mountains. After they refused to stop violence, terrorizing, instability and assassinations in the region we decided to fight with them and defend from our civilians,”

 

“Puntland security forces attacked the militias to rescue the people and the region, three of our soldiers died, and seven injured, I saw the body of 11 of the militias lying on the ground.” the commander said.

 

The attack comes nearly two weeks after a similar deadly offensive was targeted on the group which wants to transform the mountainous region into African Tora Bora.

Contrary to what you are saying adeer, a man on the run will not be able to organize anything. Now that his base has been taken over, and important commanders killed or on the run, Mr Attam has to worry about the PIS, as well as many locals who harbor a grudge when he was the master of the Universe in Galgala. Adeerayaal this was a good cause for all. The annihilation and defeat of the terror groups by Puntland authority Yesterday sends a clear signal and a good example to every suicide maniac that any such rebellion and terror compaign would not be tolerated in any part of the Northern regions of Somalia. No room, save haven or hideout for Alshabaab at all in the North no matter how mountenous or difficult the environment may be.
