President Girma Wolde-Giorgis said friendly relations between Ethiopia and Somaliland would further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

Receiving a parliamentary delegation led by Somaliland Parliament, Speaker Abdurahiman Mohammed Abdullahi yesterday, President Girma said the smooth relations between the two countries plays considerable role in their joint anti-poverty struggle.

President Girma also expressed conviction that members of the Somaliland Parliament would draw useful lessons from their discussion with Ethiopian parliamentarians.

The robust cooperation Ethiopia and the Somaliland have been enjoying has facilitated ways for free movement of peoples of the two countries, members of the delegation said.

They also said that they would be satisfied if Ethiopia upgrades its trade office in Hargeisa to the level of diplomatic mission.

Members of the delegation told President Girma that opposition political parties and the ruling party are working in harmony for the common good of the country, according to a senior government official who attended the talks.

Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, Ambassador Teshome Toga also said Ethiopia is desirous of further strengthening its bilateral relations with Somaliland.

Conferring with the parliamentary delegation yesterday, Ambassador Teshome said the two countries have been enjoying excellent relations in trade, air transport, seaport, and infrastructure and security fields.

The Ethiopian Parliament is desirous of further bolstering the existing multifaceted relations between Ethiopia and Somaliland, he said.

Ambassador Teshome recalled on the occasion that visits and experience-sharing forums have been held previously by the executive bodies.

The decision of the Somaliland Parliament to forge strong relations with Ethiopia emanated from its conviction that Ethiopia is the closest neighbour of Somaliland in East Africa, he said.

Ambassador Teshome on the occasion expressed the parliament's deep appreciation and concern for the people and administration of the Somaliland.

The Speaker also briefed the delegation on the self-defence measures Ethiopia has taken over the extremist forces that had been sheltered in Somalia.

Speaker of the Somaliland Parliament, Abdurrahman Mohamed said the discussions held with Ethiopian parliamentarians were constructive and fruitful as well.

He said the two parliaments have reached an agreement on ways of cementing strong relations in the future.

"rajo fiican iyo kalsooni buuxda ayaan kala soo noqday"

“Waxaanu ka wada hadalnay Soomaaliya inaanay arrinteedu inaanay ina qusayn oo weliba wuxuu ballan qaaday inaanay Itoobiya ogolaanayn in Somaliland nabadeeda iyo jiritaankeedaba wax la yeelo”.

“Anigu sacab baan tumayaa maan odhan, laakiin waxaan idhi wixii Soomaaliya aad nabadooda wax kaga qabanaysaan waanu taageeraynaa, Itoobiyana waan ku taageersanahay wixii nabad ah ee ay koonfurta Soomaaliya la qabanayso”.

““Ujeeddada safarkaygu waxay ahayd xaaladaha ka dhacaya geyigeenna inaan xogogaal u noqdo iyo inaan xogogaal u noqdo meesha la dhigay Somaliland. Anigana waa la i waraysanayey, aniguna fikirkaygaan gudbinayay. Waxaanan dadkaas aan la kulmay kala hadlayey inaanay waxa halkaas [soomaaliya] ka socdaa saamayn ku yeelan Somaliland. Markaan idiin soo koobana – hadday tahay Ra’iisulwasaaraha Itoobiya, AU-da, EU-da iyo hadday safaaradaha kale tahayba – arrintaasi waa arrin Soomaaliya ku kooban oo wax inaga khuseeyaa aanu jirin. Taasna waxa ii dhex socday inaan qaddiyadeena cid kasta u sheego iyo mustaqbalka waxaan caalamka uga baahanahay, markaan idiin soo ururiyo rajo fiican iyo kalsooni buuxda ayaan kala soo noqday wax dadkeenu ka werwero oo halkaas waxa ka socda inaga saamayn karaana ma jirto.”

Somaliland and Ethiopia have long being collaborating to share intelligence on combating supposed terrorists eg. Alitixaad and O.N.L.F. It was a secret blessing to Somaliland that one of it's biggest threats( Islamic Courts) were ousted and know they are hoping Abdullahi Yusuf is ousted! Somalilanders are also "allegedly" in debt to Ethiopia for giving them refuge during the S.N.M days.

Geel jire, i dont where you have been getting your information from, but all the Landers especially the ones on this forum have adovacated their support for the Islamic courts and the good work they did in the somalia. Most of the landers on this forum have said that on numerous times. yes, some opposed them because of the irregularities in their policies but somalilanders in general were in support.

we do want that dog ousted but that is view shared by the majority of Somali's all over the world. the man is the enemy of every somali and needs to be eliminated for somali's to ever have a chance to reconcile their differences

On the issue of our collaboration with the Ethiopians, it is beneficial for both countries that we trade with eachother and a delegation of somaliland has gone over their to strengthen our trade and economic links.

I hope you get your information from more credible sources in the future, so that you dont come to the same hap-hazard conculsions

Peace
