Rahima Posted July 6, 2005 ^Which is my exact point!. I and i'm sure a few others are not sure how the term applies to Somalis and Somalia at this current stage, hence how could we be expected to answer it? I do not know (and find no shame in saying so). All i was doing was asking in the event that would you clarify it perhaps one could divulge an appropriate response and hence is applicable to this topic. Sky Posted July 6, 2005 This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever seen. The poster sure confused too many people. Even some of those that did answer his question didn't seem to get it right.

NASSIR Posted July 6, 2005 Let me remake myself by disregarding my last comment. Yes i am Nationalist. We need to be nationalists first to become democrats and and socialists. We need to stamp out tribal consciousness and replace it with national consciousness first.. The concept is simple, "We won't let any foreigners push us around"
Jacpher Posted July 7, 2005 Some of you seem to get annoyed by my replies to someone who suggested a warlord involved in the civil war to be a true Somali nationalist which is really offensive. In my opinion, a true nationalist would never partake such war. To me, Somali nationalists are those who love, care, and devout their time & interest to the existence and the well being of the country, its peopel and culture. An example would be the Somali poets and musicians whose work displays a true nationalism. It may be fair to say the warlords are rather nationalist to their own clan, instead of the country. May be some of us didn’t grasp the real meaning of the term. All the warlords deserve the worst possible punishment for killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people and causing another million to flee from their homes. They don't deserve recognition. Am I the only one who see them that way? Saaxiibayaal sorry for the replies although they were related to the topic. My apology. MM: Addressing people as Yar-yaruurac isn't nice. Sky Posted July 7, 2005 Guhaad as I said earlier, yes I do consider myself a Somali nationalist. In my opinion Somali nationalists would put the Somali people first and than the Somali state. Many do it the other way around and are willing to damage the Somali people for a Somali state. But true Somali nationalists are willing to salvage both, but the people are priority number one. Now I would like to challenge you, because you sure are a demanding nomad in SOL. Would you prefer a thriving, democratic and peaceful Somalia...as an Ethiopian regional state? Or a miserable, anarchic and chaotic Somalia in a neverending vicious cycle and unbreakable downward spiral (as it is now)...but free and independant? Because the people that prefer either one of both are strangely equally considered Somali nationalists. So there's not á Somali nationalist perhaps. xiinfaniin Posted July 8, 2005 Guhaad aka Jamaal11, if nationalism is derived from the passionate loyalty toward institutions (Qaran) of your country and patriotism is the loyalty to the principles and ideals (Wadan) of your nation, then I think this tread cries for some clarity as to what it would mean to associate your self (or others as you would like us to do) to either of these two names! Abwaan Posted July 8, 2005 It is an easy thing to leave a comment over here calling yourself a nationalist or patriot but the question I would like to raise over here is: can those of you who claim to be Wadaniyiin give us some examples to proof that? To give you a clue something like the work of Artist Amin Amir, Wadani Calan side and Pilot Asli Cabaade.... Do you disobey your kinsmen's thinking shaped by Qabyaalad ? Refuse to pay The so-called Qaaraan(mainly used for attacking other Somalis and destroying the country)towards your Qabiil? I am afraid only yes cannot be accepted as an answer there should be more explanations.
