General Duke Posted July 24, 2007 The national reconciliation conference may represent a few different things to many different people. To the opposition groups representing both the defeated armed groups as well as the confused secessionist no doubt loath it. To them it represents a set back and the withering away of their hopes that Mogadishu will be the defeat of Yusuf Yey and the Federalist camp. “Life is really simple, but men insist on making it complicated.” ~ Confucius Indeed the idea behind this conference is simple. 1. To reclaim Somali National Conferences for the Somali’s, holding it in our national capital and epicenter of our recent troubles. A timely move away from, Nairobi, Djibouti, Addis and as some would like even further away in Asmara. 2. To bring for the first time representatives of the warring clans together, for them to come face to face and sit as equals in their bombed out capital no doubt to reflect on the gruesome work that was done in the name of their clans. 3. To demonstrate to the Somali’s and the world that we are moving forward with this quest for governance and reclaiming our nation. And that Mogadishu can once again become the symbol of what is great about Somalia and the Somali’s

General Duke Posted July 24, 2007 ^^Lets wish for peace, for a period of 16 years hard battles have achieved nothing for the Somali's. Peace and national governance now thats wonderful for all, dont you think . Soldiers are on high alert outside the peace talks
Baashi Posted July 24, 2007 Duke it's all good that odayaasha are airing their grievances but at the end of the day when all is said and done there will be no tangible results on real estate, on disarmament, on federal arrangement question, on Puntalnd/Somaliland regional border dispute, on constitution, on Habasha troops, on forming inclusive transitional institutions, on revising federal charter, and so on. These are political questions that need political solutions. To solve it you neeed TFG and opposing forces ironing out their differences. Once that sort of dialogue between opposing forces takes place, the Ethiopian question will naturally be solved as there will be consensus on disarmament which will lead to improved security in all areas of concern. From there, progress will be made on all other sticking issues. I for one support this conference not that it is perfect no sire and certainly not that it is inclusive but because it is the right step to the right direction. Let the calaalcal give way to the real talk, where rebel parliamentarians (they represent their constituents I take it) and UIC, and other wing of H tribe participate, takes place. Again this one is good but not nearly enough. Mark my word the international political and donor support will not be forthcoming till outstanding issues are put to bed or at least concrete effort toward that direction takes place. General Duke Posted July 24, 2007 ^^^lool. Nice points adeer. Though the clans meeting is the beggining. As for the Ethiopian as you noted is a temporary excuse used by those who ahve most to loose to hold on, just a little bit longer. All government property has been returned in Mogadishu however for the private it should be left to the national court to establish a process. Political talk is important but as the day goes by the Asmara group seem more irrelevent.
