We condemn the attacks which have killed more than 12 people in Mogadishu and wounded more than sixty people. These attacks throughout early hours of Tuesday 20th February which saw distributed shelling of artillery and heavy machine-gun fire in different areas in Mogadishu by the Ethiopian troops and the new warlords in Mogadishu the leaders of the TFG (Transitional Federal Government) are a criminal and inherently inhuman. We stand by the victims in grief and sadness over the unjustified and utterly cold-blooded tragedy they had to face under this unlawful occupation of the country by the Ethiopian force and their puppet TFG warlords.

 

The capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, had witnessed multiple show of aggression and oppression since the arrival of the unpopular TFG equipped with Ethiopian force. The people of Mogadishu had continuously observed, witnessed and suffered from nights of attack from the Ethiopian force and the daily removal of democratic process and power of TFI institutions from the leaders of the TFG who had used this opportunity in Mogadishu to revert back the country to the state of warlordism.

 

The Ethiopian government and their puppet TFG warlords have used the blanket of anti terrorism to silence opposition and shut down all form of democratic and freedom of expression rights, in result the leaders of the TFG and the Ethiopian force in Mogadishu committed acts of terrorism against the people of Mogadishu, Baidoa and all areas in Somalia which come under their command, we the New SYL like many other organizations in Mogadishu do not want to see Mogadishu and Somalia to be a safe haven for terrorism, however the actions of Ethiopian force in Mogadishu and the TFG warlords are nothing but encouragements to terrorist who capitalize from the vulnerability of the people, these acts leave people no alternative but to resist these unlawful regimes of warlords and dictators from neighboring countries.

 

These acts will also plant the seeds of future conflicts among the peaceful border sharing nations in East Africa, and the actions of the Ethiopian force and the TFG warlords is distant from the intentions and policy of the international Somali contact group. The Ethiopian leadership and their allied TFG leaders lost the opportunity to amend and improve relationship of both countries instead they have impaired and exacerbated the relation of both countries by implanting a new seeds of conflict and hate by being nothing more than an occupation force allied with warlords who have a policy of newly ethnic cleansing in Mogadishu.

 

We appeal to all international human rights organization to investigate these criminal acts, and we also call for the UN to place International sanctions against all support to the TFG who have done nothing more then to hinder the present and future prospect of peace and development in the country and restored a policy of ethnic cleansing towards the people of Mogadishu.

 

We also appeal to all international communities to discontinue support and funding to the TFG and the Ethiopian force in Mogadishu who have used resources to discourage development and democracy in Mogadishu, we consider those who support such a criminals: to be direct contributors to crimes against humanity and in direct violation against human rights.

 

Finally if the intention of the International Somalia Contact Group was to find ways and restore peace and stability in Somalia with the protection of humanity being their paramount tenet, then they should pursue and open immediate actions and channels to do so. Cause at the moment currently the presence of Ethiopian occupation forces and the TFG are doing at their best the utter opposite of this tenet. Indiscriminate and continues artillery shelling of densely populated areas of Mogadishu and silencing the independent media that report it.

Yusuf have done nothing to help out the residents of Mogadishu physically, mentally or emotionally, he has stated no compassionate words, no condolence, nothing. He has left them in the wilderness, with Ethiopian soldiers to abuse and kill them. ^The resistance is there to engage with the occupiers. Most of these ambushes take place for several hours. Most civilian casualties occur as a result of indiscriminate shelling by Ethiopian/TFG soldiers well after the ambush is over (get your facts in order). This shows that the resistance is interested in open warfare, it is the Ethiopian soldiers who are increasingly setting up camp in residential areas in a deliberate attempt to draw innnocent civilians into the conflict; e.g. suburbs around the Airport and recently in a former hospital housing thousand of families.

The prospect of Somalia entering again a cycle of civil war based on clan affiliation is inevitable if the World bodies lets it slide into the current path Somalia is being stirred towards by the TFG and their commanders the Ethiopian occupying forces.

 

Contributing Factors to possible Clan War:

 

The unjustified and illegal occupation of Ethiopian troops in Somalia and in particular their concentrated presence in Mogadishu.

 

The presence of what is termed as National Army but actually is clan militias affiliated with President Yusuf in Mogadishu – hence hindering and completely undermining the reconciliation process and the structuring of a viable and trusted National Army and security forces – additionally their daily hostilities and authoritarian presence in Mogadishu (with the aid and support of thousands of Ethiopian troops) could spark a unprecedented, irrevocable, and long lasting civil strife based on clan war.

 

The unilateral and authoritarian rule and grip on the TFG by President Yusuf (again with the aid of occupying Ethiopian troops) - the TFG formed two and half years ago with Ethiopian influence was aimed to bring aboard all Warlords of Somalia including President Yusuf – now of all a sudden the lot , apart from him, are discarded from the power sharing in the TFG, questioning the reconciliatory factor of the TFG.

 

Fragmentation and diminishing the authority and democratic power of the Legislative Branch by President Yusuf.

 

In order to seriously safe Somalia from unforeseeable future of apathy the above mentioned basic errors should be amended with the immediate effect by the World bodies such as UN, AU, EU, ICO, etc. – they should insist, urge, encourage and most of all make sure that the TFG is rectified:

• The timely announcement of Ethiopian occupation troops and replacement by either AU or EU peace-keeping troops.
• The participation of all clans and militias based in Somalia in the structuring and establishing of National army and security forces – plus the fair sharing of its commandment by all clans of Somalia in the same format which was set to share power in the TFG (before it became headed by a warlord Yusuf and his clan Ethiopians).
• The limitation of the powers of President Yusuf by bringing back power sharing rule among all clans of Somalia.
• Re-establishing Sharif Hassan as the head of the Legislative Branch of the TFG and moving the seta of the parliament where it is not guarded by the Ethiopians and clan militias loyal to Andullahi Yusuf.
• Calling for and the immediate convening of a reconciliation process that includes this TFG, the ICU, Civic societies and others who are not included in the TFG.

Unless such drastic attempts are made Somalia would reach a point where the World bodies would be hoping they did something when they could have. The international organisation should beware that endorsing or being silent and incapacitated supporter of n authoritarian rule aided by invading forces is not a solution for reconciliation but rather the utter opposite.
