Socod_badne Posted March 10, 2007 I feel sorry for these poor AU troops who come with noble intention of peacekeeping but will enevitably be drawn into clan wars.
General Duke Posted March 10, 2007 ^^^"Clan wars", "looming clan genocide", "regional war, insurgency", "Baidoa the new Baghdad" all false statements with the aim of distorting the reality on the ground. The AU troops take allot of pressure of the TFG and give it time to train its forces and disarm the population.
Socod_badne Posted March 10, 2007 What makes you think the population will disarm when their historical enemy/competitor clan(s) is armed to the teeth?
General Duke Posted March 10, 2007 ^^^No clan is armed to the teeth dear lad. The militias of Mogadishu will be incorporated into the armed forces some have even completed their training already and have arrived today, all the police of Mogadishu are locals and thus disarming the businessmen, local militia and freelance groups is in the best interest of everyone. No clan should retain arms outside the governemnt that goes for all.

Agreed but without follow through it's merely more mealy-mouthed platitudes. There are hundreds of Puntland clan militia in Mogadishu to "disarm" clan militias there. No body sees Galgadud state militias or Jubba Valley Alliance militia or Puntland militia or any other militia for anything but clan militias. No regional clan militias should be allowed to retain it's arms if you wanna convince others to disarm their militias. It's simple as that.
General Duke Posted March 11, 2007 ^^^Puntland is a state within the Somali Federal republic, it has troops like many other regions contributing to safe gaurd their country and their capital. Thus hiding behind Puntland makes no sense, Mogadishu belongs to all Somali's and the TFG troops represent all Somali's, those killing and maiming Mogadishu residents and who want to bomb the airport & port will not be given a free pass to continue with their activities of old. Socod_badne Posted March 13, 2007 It doesn't matter what Puntland (or any self-declared autonomous region) considers itself. To the average Somali south of Gaalkacyo Puntland militias are viewed as clan militia. There are clan militias from Puntland in Mogadishu today awaiting the go ahead to disarm clans there. Tell me, since you're the champion of empowering the weak and levelling the playing field for all clans, why do you support the disarming of some clans but OK with others keeping their militias intact? General Duke Posted March 13, 2007 ^^^I dont want any clan to retain weapons, including those that reside in Puntland state, what good would armed clans bring to any region? Remmeber the many incidents that have taken place over the years when armed clans kill each other over grazing land and watering holes? Thus I do not as you claimed support a clan being disramed while other retain the weapons. Thus the disaramanet of all clans includes weapons outside the organs of the state even in Puntland. What the TFG is planning to do is to disarm the militias and groups including the "business" groups and let the security forces takeover the job of securing the capital. This is quite simple and strightforward. The locals of Mogadishu are part of the trained security personell, all the police in Banadir & their head are locals, thus pointing the finger at Puntland is wrong and unnecessary.
