Jacaylbaro Posted February 5, 2009 Riyadh, 5 February 2009 (Somalilandpress) - Sources close to the Saudi government said on Thursday that the Saudi government is committed to mediating a peace deal between the newly elected Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and his former ally Sheikh Dahir Aweys who is now the chairman of the Asmara based Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS). A spokesman for the government said they plan to invite both parties to Saudi Arabia for talks and would present them with a cease-fire roadmap and a well-structured alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for the country. Somalis always look to Saudia and the Arab world for a solution, but Saudi Arabia has never made a real effort to promote a settlement of the Somali crisis. To many Somalis the Arab world led by Saudia has became highly incompetent leaders who sit back and do nothing about the crisis in Somalia, Palestine and Iraq and have little to contribute to the world despite their financial powers.
