General Duke Posted July 1, 2007 Son of Somalia's deposed Islamic Courts leader killed The elder son of Abdurrahman Janaqow, the deputy chairman of Somalia's deposed Supreme Islamic Courts Council, Abdelqawi Abdurrahman Janaqow, was shot dead Thursday by Somali police after he killed an official in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, the police said. "He was a leading member of the insurgency and carried out assassinations of government officials," Abdullahi Hassan Barise, deputy chief of Banadir region police, told Xinhua. "Although he is just one individual, his death marks a step forward in the stability of the capital." Barise said three other men carried out the assassination of Hin Dheere, deputy Commissioner of Daynile District of Mogadishu, with Janaqow, but they escaped and are being pursued by the police. "This will be a lesson for other trouble makers," Barise said. Analysts contend that the death of Janaqow, which has been confirmed by his relatives, represents major victory for the governments and a blow for insurgency as he is one of the highest ranking members of the insurgents, who the government believes are active in the capital in their thousands. Residents say the deputy commissioner was ambushed as he was back from work and was shot dead before Janaqow were killed by his bodyguards. Abdurrahman Janaqow and other leading members of the Supreme Islamic Courts Council are currently in exile in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea, which Ethiopia, Somali government accuse of supporting the Islamists. A recent upsurge of violence in the capital targeting Somali government officials since the Somali government announced the postponement of the national reconciliation conference which is now rescheduled to be held in mid July. Somalia has been without a central government since the overthrow of late ruler Mohamed Siyad Barre in 1991 when the country plunged into chaos until the formation of the current transitional federal government in Nairobi in 2004 as a result of the reconciliation conference there. General Duke Posted July 1, 2007 Nothing remarkable about his death, though it highlights that these trouble makers are getting justice for their actions.

Just like the death of Al Zarqawi or any other number of "key insurgent leaders" put an end to the insurgency in Iraq eh?
Nephissa Posted July 1, 2007 "This will be a lesson for other trouble makers," Barise said. Lesson kulahaa! 'tis far from being over. Every act of violence perpetuates more violence. There are years, and years and years of blood shed to look forward to haddusan cadowga Allah dhaqso naga qaban. And don't let those dowlad ku sheeg tell you otherwise! Yarka dhintay iyo inta kalaba Allaha u naxariisto.
General Duke Posted July 1, 2007 The bombers, assasins are not getting it all their way. The fact that the deposed courts leadership in exile deny their involvement has also been proven to be false.
